God Bless America

One thing I love about America is that as a nation they are not shy to talk about God.

But the down side. . . .

But the down side of America's religiosity is a presumption that the U.S. has to run around the world, trying to right every wrong -- an attitude that eventually got the country stuck in the quagmire of Vietnam. The world is a complex place. So, it's not necessarily to America's advangage to parse every problem in terms of what's moral and what's not. Sometimes it's better not to try to spread G-d consciousness, or America's version thereof, to every nation on the face of the earth.

God is a traditional universal understanding

God bless America is a phrase or metaphor understood by every nation in the the world because of common traditions with deities .
The United States was in fact the First Nation ever to separate Church and State . The British Empire was headed by the King who was also head of the Church .It is this separation that allowed Jews and other religious groups to flourish without the burdens of a theological government of one persuasion .

Thanks Lori for reminding me about the role of America. I agree with you.

agree and disagree

On the one hand, I've also felt that Israeli politicians' reluctance to invoke G-d's name reflects a missed opportunity, even though they can be heard using the term b'ezrat Hashem, (with G-d's help). And I do like that American leaders are not shy in that regard. But on the other hand, I don't think that America mainly acts out of altruism; mainly she does what's in her own interests. And secondly, it is possible to talk about G-d all day and commit utter evil - take ISIS as a case in point.
