However, one important variable was left out.

Yes, it certainly IS easier to take care of feeding, diapers, runny noses and bathing when the children are little. However, we are assuming that the young child is in good health. While we of course always hope for good health it is sadly not always the case. If a young child has a serious disease or disability, the trajectory gets turned on its head in a major way. I always felt that being a parent was the most rewarding but hardest job I have ever had. Then again, for me nothing worthwhile in this life has ever come easily.

Little children, little problems. Big children, big problems.
