Whenyour home is not your home
At home I don't use the cell phone on Shabbat. Yet now I'm living with my daughter to help her with her 4 month old baby. She is not Shomer Shabbat.I had hoped she would become closer to G-d as a new mother. And she has started lighting Shabbat candles, but otherwise Shabbat is just another day of the weekend. While I want to make myself available to help her . I've started answering her calls on Shabbat on my way home from Shull. I feel uncomfortable about it and I feel that Shabbat is slipping away from me. I've just decided to tell her how I feel so she will understand that it is G-d's will not my will, a quote from you. For what it's worth, I am not perfectly Shomer Shabbat. However, I am proud to say that I would say no to the Las Vegas trip. I am a b'aal teshuva who was raised in an EXTREMELY Secular Jewish home, and it would be easy for me to say that what I am currently doing is as good as it is going to get. However, that is not what Hashem wants from me. I am being tested all the time! Sometimes I pass and sometimes I stumble and fall.

following G-d's will and tests vs. being tempted to give up
Thanks, Lori! All too often, it can be easy to contemplate the temptation of giving up in life in thinking what one currently has is as good as it is going to get, but is that kind of thinking idolatrous as opposed to G-d's will and tests for His perfect plan of living a more fulfilling life? Maybe it depends on the balance between quantity and quality of life. Anyone either agree with me or beg to differ?
