Just for today I'm going to see the opportunity instead of the obstacle. Just for today I am going to recognize the kindness instead of the apathy, the light instead of the dark, the love instead of the hate, the beauty instead of the chaos, the blessing instead of the lack.

Just for today, I want to say thank You. For the rising sun and the autumn leaves. For the shelter, the water and the food. For my arms, my legs, my eyes, my heart and for every breath You grant me. For the gift of my children. For the Torah and all the myriad blessings it brings into my life. For all this and for so much more.

Here are ten quotes that can help us cultivate gratitude each day.

  1. "Trade your expectation for appreciation and your world changes instantly." Tony Robbins

  2. "The single greatest thing you can do to change your life right now would be to start being grateful for what you have today." Oprah Winfrey

  3. "We can complain that rose bushes have thorns or we can rejoice that thorn bushes have roses." Abraham Lincoln

  4. "Thankfulness has an inner connection with humility. It recognizes that what we are and what we have is due to others and above all, to God." Rabbi Jonathan Sacks

  5. "In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity." Albert Einstein

  6. "Acknowledge your gifts and be grateful to the source. Because if you know from whom you are receiving, you can always go back for more." Rabbi Noah Weinberg, zt”l

  7. "Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty instead of upon your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." Charles Dickens

  8. "Gratitude also opens your eyes to the limitless potential of the universe while dissatisfaction closes your eyes to it." Stephen Richards

  9. "For me every hour is grace. And I feel gratitude in my heart every time I can meet someone and look at his or her smile." Elie Wiesel

  10. "Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all you want." Jim Rohn

What are you grateful for just for today? If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75 percent of the world.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of war, the agony of prison and torture or the horrific pangs of starvation, you are more fortunate than 500 million people alive and suffering.

And if you can read this, you are more fortunate than billions of people in the world who cannot read at all.

Today is the day to recognize the incredible blessings in our lives. Just for today, pause, look up and see the awesomeness of everything around us and within us.
