I just ran the 2009 NYC Marathon and won.

I came in one of the last. It all started with a deal that I made with a Jew who was an Ultra Marathon runner, living 450 miles away. I was in Brooklyn and he in St.Catheriines Ontario. He was thirsting for Torah (we connected through Aish.com) and I wanted to teach him. but I wanted more. So the deal was you teach me to run and I will teach you Torah. So true!

It means the success can only be measured by ourselves, because we know best about how much effort we make. Also it can be interpreted that we must be cautious in saying A is successful and B is unsuccessful when we do not know how much effort they had put into. How comforting and at the same time how alarming, because every second I spend will turn into success or not. Time gets suddenly crucial. If it is not talent, and if it is effort, how we manage time, how focused we are become the most important thing. Thanks a lot Rabbi Gluckin for the vivid and profound message!
