I don't think anyone is capable of committing to love. One can commit to an action, as in doing something. There you are able to make a commitment. But not with emotions. The 'command' to love G-d is not about commitment. It is about replacement. You see the emotions must go somewhere. We have them and they must and will be used. So instead of a love of say jewelry or self advancement, why not learn to 'replace' with a greater and higher ideal? The command is I think, a command to turn away and go in the best direction.
