A Bum Deal

Rufus Hannah's remarkable true story of unspeakable exploitation and redemption, and the man who saved him.

Rufus Hannah was an alcoholic homeless person, exploited by a group of young people to do inhumane stunts for the infamous underground video series, Bumfights. Barry Soper was the businessman who saw Rufus’s humanity and through his mentorship, enabled him to get sober and build a productive life. This video tells their truly inspiring story and demonstrates the Torah principle that every person is created in the image of God. (Viewer discretion is advised.)

Inspiring, but . . .

This is a very inspirational story, but I wonder what might have happened if that *gentile* man hadn't told Barry Soper that he needed to hire the two men. Sad - but not surprising - that his first instinct was to just get rid of them instead of helping them. Hopefully others who see this will learn from it and try to help others instead of reacting as he did at first.

one mitsvah leads to another

Saving the soul of one homeless man has lead to the homless man helping other homeless people. Stories like this bring us closer to G_d.

Amazing man gives back the best way.

I feel so conflicted. It is wonderful to see what this gentle man, was finally blessed with, and heart breaking to see the kind of people, and situations, he was subjected to, and endured. G-D bless him for his transition, and for the heart to continually help others out of their traps.

Inspiring.

Baruch haShem for the good people in this video! Anyone who has ever felt low knows how easy it is to end up homeless, if you lack the necessary support network.I pray that we all look out for each other more, show that we care. and there is light, and goodness in life, even if the pain is overwhelming.

Did the horrible sadists who inflicted Rufus with humiliation and injury in the name of profit and "entertainment" ever suffer any kind of arrest and punishment? That people could do this to another human being made me physically sick. How I admire this man and his mentor, as well as the minister who was the catalyst for his mentor to really DO something.
