Nice story, but...

To my knowledge, a commander is not allowed to deny a soldier the opportunity to pray. Something is wrong with the facts here. And it's unlikely that the soldier would be the only religious soldier in that predicament. The prestigious combat units usually will have some religious soldiers, and the commander is aware of his obligation to give time to pray, provided that it's only an exercise and not a life and death situation.

Wonderful message to follow conscience

There is a movie out now about Desmond Doss who won the Medal of Honor, yet refused to carry a gun. He saved many lives while remaining true to his deeply held beliefs.

your delivery of the story was exceptional

So important for kids to hear this message

I look forward to sharing this clip with my children. I think that it plants an amazing Jewish value in their impressionable minds.

Re Connie

HI. I think that you should remember that this was only a test, not a real life mission that could endanger anyone. The Tora mandates that in a life threatening situation, a man should not and cannot don his tefilin. The message in this story is of course the strength of character that shone through. A willed person can help more than a person who doesn't have any morals.

This was not a operation or mission this was a training class. Who did he put in danger?

(14) Joseph Berson, January 2, 2017 2:06 AM

A message for all humanity.

Amen

Tests take Many Forms

Thanks for the reminder that the combat troops of Israel have been raised to understand there is no conflict between the ways we've been raised and the demands ultimately placed upon ourselves.

great story

when you are being chased by an enemy whose every intent is to kill you, you cannot stop running or fighting to put on tefflin.

(11) Gerald Smith, January 1, 2017 8:37 PM

Officer material

seconds count when you are facing an enemy and I wonder what would he do if under enemy fire. Please enemy stop killing my comrades and me so I can put on my telfilim. !!!! puts on tefillim and gets killed, end of story.

Baruch Hashem we have soldiers like this man

With a commander who has such clarity on what is really important, and soldiers willing to give everything they dreamt about for what really matters most, we will b''H change this world for the better.
