We understand the big bang theory and now we are focusing on molecular biology. What research is focusing on now is the vast universe of the single cell. The brilliance of each step in mitosis is beyond belief. Each step of the process is so unique and brilliant that we see the hand of god.By understanding each step we are on the way to develop new drugs for treating the scourge of cancer.

Created in the image of God?
Thank you for the beautifully presented Creation Story. But, most respectfully, I wonder for whom your Creation Story was designed? Is it anexplaation or a representation of the Big Bang Theory with a "personhood"(God) making The Science happen? If so it is what it is. But . . . . . . I realize how difficult it must be for 21st C religious leaders and followers to reconcile what we know today as hard science with myths, fables, and superstitions three, four or five thousand years old designed then to explain uncertainty and utilized to exercise and maintain social control. But please don't treat curious and sincerely interested observers as if we are children needing fairy tales and bed time stories in order to walk the straight and narrow path and to live Righteously in the Real World. That, it seems to me, is Religion''s biggest mistake. But what do I know? I'm just another thoroughly assimilated Westside LA Jew on the outside looking in and wondering if I'm missing something.

Multi BILLIONS of years old - not 6 days
Hi Carol. I understand your comments because I once felt the same way until ten years ago. In truly learning Torah, we learn that there are many worlds besides ours, that what we call a day is not what Hashem calls a day, that there were humans before Adam, and everything science is proving. The Big Bang theory btw was founded by a Jew. I've gone from a distaste for Torah b/c of science to a love of Torah because of science. As far as "religion" vs. "way of life" well the challenge is to keep a moral standard in an immoral place. These 10 minute videos are meant to wrap up what would take years to exhaust in a simple fashion for those who might not even be able to grasp it any other way - perhaps even adults with mental retardation. I'm a researcher that never stops digging and I find them refreshing for a change. At any rate, I wish you the best. kol tuv

Dearest Carol, my friend and sister
If you are a " thoroughly assimilated" Jew, then, as said, you are missing something. But I hear in your reply a sincere desire to learn and grow. You could google "Old-New World" on aish.com as a starter and this could help answer your questions about science and Torah. And while you are here on aish. there is so much about real Judaism and reading these articles could help you make an educated decision about being assimilated or not. I wish you success in rejoining your people, because you are the daughter of Avraham, Issac and Jacob, Sarah, Rivka Rachel and Leah. And we all stood together on Mt. Sinai and heard the Torah given. With best wishes.

Please see Gerald Schroeder's articles
http://www.geraldschroeder.com/AgeUniverse.aspx He has books and audios and videos as well that reconcile some of these issues. I realize you are coming to this from an assimilated perspective where all religions are treated equally and science is held above all of them (I come from there, too). All of these questions are taken seriously in classes given on Aishaudio and other places - this is one video taken out of context, in this case.

Resemble G'd and you will walk in His Footsteps
Resemble G'd and you will walk in His Footsteps - Deuteronomium28.9. And our Sages add : As G'd is merciful, so be you. As G'd is generous so should be you. In this way will be fulfilled what is written that "man" was created in the image of G'd (Genesis 1,27) Excerpt of an article written by Naftali Tsvi Finkel -Tvunah compilation (1928) (from an article in the weekly Jewish Newspaper in Antwerp of the early 70's. I clipped it and still have it)
