Burn Your Bridge

It is always easier to be proactive about things when you first hear about it. This was a motivating and inspiring speach, however, if we dont act right away, we may loose the mindset that got us started. It is hard to suddenly burn our escape bridge. All that we need is to make the enitial push that will get the marbil rolling to greatness!

Thanks so much for the video. I really think that we all should try to be better and not let problems get in the way of us reaching our goals.

Good video! sometimes the people need to face the problems and the situations, it is much better than run away, and escape. Because, when you face your problems, your embarrasing situations, you can find the solution faster than when you go away and escape of your problems. you can find the balance, when you study The Torah and apply It to your life. I think there is more than a kernel of truth to this message. No one strategy works all of the time, but the message of eliminating an escape route or an "easy way out" is very important in achieving greatness. But it requires FAITH.

In this situation, and with no way out, or time to buy, I find myself a couple of days before Peisach, and it doesnt matter how early on I started to clean. I;d better finish or finish before deadline!!! Without realizing I was capable to do it, I stay awake and work as a slave 40 hrs non stop. So true and inspiring what Charlie presents, well done!

Well, that's the way the Zealots felt and they were wrong which is what led to the downfall of Israel and the destruction of the second temple and the deaths of Jews and the slavery of Jews brought to Rome. So I guess my advice is to do it for yourself but don't make the decision for others.That is the decision Ahmadinejad is making about Iran and the Palestinians and that is what makes him a Zealot. Europe should watch this film to get an education. As Rabbi Cooper from the Simon Wiesenthal Center said "Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust and wants to finish the job." Because Ahmadinejad does not think clearly, he does not realize that the Naziis were up against inhabitants of the shtetl. Things have changed. Now Israel is a country and is armed.

"Burn your bridge" can go through my mind through out the day, just in day to day situations. Such a profound concept, and relatable in small and large matters. Charles, you are a gifted speaker!

I truly felt compelled to write and to say thank you for such a powerful message. I also liked the way with which you presented it; it was in such a humble, yet convincing way that made me completely focus on your message and take it home with me. ...

There is powerful philosophies written and spoken about the transitional qualitys of the peaceful beauty and suble mysteries of life. Unfortunately these are not predominant in times of great turmoil and noise on the surface of excistence, like the period we live in now, of course depending on location and culture. And sadly war has been one of the main forces changing societys and destinys throughout known history, rendering all matters of lucid dreaming and slow, thoughtful change absolete and sweeping away both fruitful and harmful confusion to a clear point of do or don´t in everyone that has to face it. We now live in the third world war, that has been going on since the second, and because of developements in media and technology we "all" face it together. The consept of war grows utterly absurd as we mechanise and commercialise the battleground and thereby remove the distinct quality of facing yourself and your enemy in battle, or fighting for a ridgeous cause. Wars are usually started by the few, and fought and suffered by the many. Maybe the perplexing and intriguing perspectives of war will loose its grip on our minds as the masters of war loose their powers of illusion, and they are left naked with their basic motivations of fear and greed. Hopefully some people will keep their believe that faith can move mountains, but my guess is that most modern men will still resolve to the use of dynamite, and will have to be led back to the place were life grows in peaceful abundance, by those humble ones who are disregarded as weak, utopian dreamers in a more violent time and place.

Watching this, I was reminded of a quote I've seen: "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." True, it's a risk, but it's worth it! Even if you don't "discover new oceans" or win the battle so to speak, if you don't take the chance and risk it, you may just spend the rest of your life wondering what would have happened if you had. I am always perplexed as to why we always must use war as analogy for life. I agree with Mr. Harary about reaching your potential, but I believe ones impetus can come from determination and a belief that God wants us to fulfil our potential...not fear.

WOW! This is SO TRUE!! As a result of the economic down-turn, my company was reorganized, meaning that my 12-year position with the organization was rewritten to include a significant pay-cut and decrease in responsibilities. When a new position at my company later opened-up at my previous pay-grade, I jumped at the opportunity, eventually starting a completely new job in a completely new field. Although I have spent many days of the last few months "as lost as a ball in weeks," I must admit that I've loved (practically) every minute of it and that the change in my former position was actually a huge blessing. I'm college educated with several advanced degrees, am mentally stable, and have had a steady 24-year work-history that has demonstrated continuous growth. Yet, I must be honest and admit that I have NEVER (technically) been qualified for anything that I have EVER done. You are SO RIGHT, FEAR is a great motivator! Even if we don't really know what we are doing, if we remember that Hashem guides our steps, remain open to the "wisdom" of others, be willing to share the spot-light, and "fake-it" until we do actually know what we are doing, burning our bridges (or ALLOWING them to be burned) can be a GREAT thing!! Thanks for the reminder.

He was well spoken so I got much of what he was saying despite the fact that I 'hear' only with a cochlear implant. I've let fear dominate too much of my life. I've been debating if I should take a trip to some exotic place - my firsvacation in many years. Now, I feel that this was a message to get me moving.

I would not have held up Cortes as an example. It was insensitive. Cortes was a butcher who exterminated and enslaved the native population. It would have been better if he had been defeated.
