Interesting thoughts
Interesting... but what about the golden calf? That came after the Israelites expressed their determination to do whatever God asked - if only they could hear it from Moses, and not the voice of God. And the golden calf was certainly not the end of idolatry and rebellion. I don't think it was about Israel becoming great, but a Great and loving Lord who was and is willing to forgive those who will repent, realizing their need for salvation that comes from outside themselves.

It was about both
People think that all of Israel failed at Sinai with the golden calf. However, almost all the people DIDN'T sin at the golden calf. The idolatry both at Sinai and after were the darkness in R. Harary's example, and the re-alignments with HaShem and His Torah (learning) are the lightnings of light ... moments to achieve and grow in spirituality. We are going fall because we are human. But we must brush the dirt off our clothes and continue on the Path of Torah. It is then, that we cause our "sins to become as gold" to HaShem. When we say, "I fell and I give up because the Path is too hard for me to continue," this is when our sins are not made into gold and we fail G-d, and more importantly ourself.

This is great!
Thank you! I love how you bring the theme of the holiday into our everyday lives. It makes the experience so real, and gives us the ability to connect to our forefathers; I feel that everything you said in this video sums up life in its entirety. we're always either in a state of clarity or struggle to achieve that vision. When I think about how we all go through periods of light and darkness, I feel such a strong connection to the rest of the Jewish nation. We're all in this together! Thank you for awakening that sense of unity within me (as I'm sure anyone else who watched this feels).

Amazing
Charlie - You are amazing. Keep up the dynamic dynamite lessons. Suddenly Shavuos is my most important holiday. That may change when the next important one comes along, especially if you are selling/commenting on it. But no need to for me to look ahead. I think that i will go to a shul round midnight to experience and soak up the great vibe you describe. Thanks for the inspiration.

simply profound
Gotta tell you...you've taken this vehicle of video and used it SO wisely. You hold your audience's attention, you give simply profound input and with great enthusiasm you invite us into the joy of suffering. Amazing... Yup, until we comprehend the gift of waiting (which is a thankful heart) we take everything in life for granted. Unless we discover the darkness of "the valley of the shadow of death", we have no plumb line for divine delight. I commend you for offering your insight, your gifts and your inspiration to a very disillusioned world! : )

Thanks so much for this video
Thanks seems like an understatement. I have been so sad, because I am scheduled to have major surgery on erev Shavuot, and will be out of commission for about 6 weeks. Now I feel like I can face this, for I trully know of this Light, and I am going to take it into this dark moment of my life.. So thankful I do understand what you are saying. Blessings to you dear young man for taking the time to make this video !!!!

Awesome!!!
I played it over and over and then wrote most of it down to remember and refer to. Aish has made a consistent difference in my life--classes with the Palatniks each week--internet messages like this--Rabbi Weinberg's book--all joyous and inspirational. Thank you is not enough to express my appreciation for these gifts that make a better path of life.

much needed concept
Thank you for this video! This concept needs to be taught in schools (including public schools) so that the young people will know it is normal and healthy to encounter challenging times.Children need reassurance that when they encounter dark, difficult periods that there is a reason and they will be stronger and more mature afterward. Good job!

Brilliant
This is extraordinarily inspirational- beyond profound packaged in a light format. A guide for life. To Ruth, I too am a woman, and I can't see where you think women are not represented? This isn't about "men"? This is about life for all of us, and what darkness and light represent in the perspective of working through challenges. Thanks!

(42) Ruth, May 28, 2009 1:16 AM
Inspirational however, what happen to the women?

GREAT CHOICE OF MUSIC!!!!!!!
Very inspiring and uplifting message. The music picked exactly matches the message. The band is Even Sh'Siyah from Chicago! THE BEST JEWISH ROCK BAND IN THE COUNTRY! The song "THE WAY BACK HOME" from the CD "WAKE UP". "Wake up, wake up! A brand new day is calling. The world's created just for you." Thank you AISH.

Preparing for inspiration is inspiring of itself
Is inspiration is the realization of faith or the enactment of faith? Is it believing or behaving? Both? Believing that inspiration is light, you must also hold that light purges darkness. So what is darkness in relation to Shavuot? Counting of the Omer? Darkness has a settling purpose, the darkness in between the flashes of light serve to prepare us to reflect & be still upon recognising the light? (I'm using your analogy here) If we had to walk in the dark to appreciate the light of Torah at Sinai, did the experience of that lead us to be bound by Torah or merely be awe-struck by the gravity/gesture of being given Torah? Both? See how many questions this video has sparked for me? Great stuff, Charles.

Inspiring, but include all ages
Awesome, inspirational message, and well done! But there is a constant theme with millennials who create productions -- to leave out people older than they are. Life struggles effect all ages and everyone needs to be included in presentations -- from the youngest to the oldest, everyone has struggles.

wHY IS THE MESSAGE THAT HASHEM COMMANDED THE ISRAELITES WHO WERE RESCUED FROM EGYPT TO GO TO THE LAND WHICH HE DESIGNATED FOR THEM, NEVER APPEARS TO BE MENTIONED.
THE JEWISH NATION DID NOT CHOOSE TO GO AND SETTLE IN THE LANS OF ISRAEL. THEY WERE COMMANDED TO GO THERE, NOT ONLY TO MOSES, BUT ALSO TO ABRAHAM, WHY ARE THE ISRAELITES CONSTANTLY BEING ACCUSED OF OCCUPYING ARAB PALESTINE,
SURELY THE ISLAMIC NATION WHO FOLLOW THE KORAN WHICH IS BASED ON THE JEWISH TORAH ARE AWARE OF HASHEM,S COMMANDMENTS, AND THEIR ACCUSATION IS A BREACH OF THE COMMANDMENTS. THIS MESSAGE OUGHT TO BE EMPHASIZED TIME AND TIME AGAIN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, AND PARTICULARLY THE ISLAMIC COUNTRIES.. ISRAEL NACHAM KLEIN
