I am sorry

I think I remember this lady was at a meeting in J-salem with Peres and Palestinian leaders and some American TV show several years ago. I remember her asking both sides why did this happen when will this stop. I remember getting VERY angry at BOTH sides for the answers they gave. Both sides basically justified themselves. the I-side said that is why we attack and we build walls and we put them in jails. The P-side said well we have kids being killed too, so live with it, now you know what it looks like. I had wished one side (preferably the P-side MY Side) had said something to the effect, "Madam, that was a horrible and terrible thing that happened to your child and to your family and to us all. There is NO excuse, No reason, No justification, No explanation for it. Let us work together to make sure it will not happen again. Please forgive us this terrible act. Let us just say that we have looked into our souls and have seen hell." But no one said anything like that! No one seems to have done anything like that! May I say what my country men should have said so long ago.

Shalom Seth and Sherri...I know your pain.

On September 1, 2000 my son Michael Clyde Elam was murdered. He was 24 years old and had 3 sons of his own at the time. Jacob, the youngest was just 2 weeks old. Jeremiah and Nathaniel were 4 and 3 years old.

Other than the strengh God gives me to live with the pain you both described so well, the most inspirational thing I have experienced was the testimony in this film.

War and Violence will never solve problems

When will all the nations of the world learn to solve their disputes by peaceful means, rather than by War or Violence? That was the question of my generation in the 60's..did Martin Luther King Jr. give his life for nothing? I recommend that people of all faiths go and visit the King Museum in Atlanta Georgia and learn about the hatred that the African American Community in our South and many other regions of the USA endured in the 20th century. Jews enthusiatically participated in their struggle for equality because of the inhuman and horrible suffering caused by the perpetrators of the Holocaust, blindes by their religious bigotry, hatred and intolerenceof other fellow human beings.

To be where no storms come

When my wife and I buried our first daughter in a far away city from where we live now, it seemed unbelievable and surreal, at the time, that events such as those were actually taking place. We couldn't believe what was happening to us and what had happened to her. A baby on her first day in this world, gone in an instant. For no reason, no explanation, just sorrow. So we sat, mostly alone, with our empty cradle. We didn't know many other Jews. My best friend came to my door and tried to get in, but I couldn't open it because we couldn't be seen, we couldn't be approached, we didn't want to share our grief with anyone. Finally he said to me with tears in his eyes, "Don't be bitter." So, my friends, I've tried not to be. And I've sometimes thought how much worse it would be for parents of older children, if those children were also lost - regardless of circumstance. The promise, the wisdom, the dreams, all of it lost. What can come of events like these? Only G-d knows, I suppose. So, Seth and Sherri, for you to create this wonderful camp for children is truly a blessing from G-d. And just as I pray that my daughter is now in a place where no storms come, I sincerely hope that your son has also come to that place where the hand of G-d keeps our children safe forever.

revenge vs. tikkun olam

While revenge is tempting and substantially easier, it takes more effort and decency to give tikkun olam. Sadly, Palestinian-Arabs don't seem to give as much tikkun olam, or possibly none at all since they are taught at an early age that anyone who isn't adherant to Islam is their enemy. Almost all Jews and Israelis understand that it is not a matter of people being with us or with the anti-Semites, but what it means to support the Israelis and the Jewish people. The "with us or against us" mentality has resulted in a lot of the world's polorization. Thus, treat others the way you would want to be treated - don't treat them necessarily the way they may treat you. After all, it does feel really good to do the right thing in giving tikkun olam, as well as receiving it among the good others have done for you.

i lost my sonin 2004 from complications following a successful bone marrow transplant we have tried to do a number of things in his memory including helping to feed the homeless by continuing his project of making and donating sandwiches to a local shelter this helps us to be productive as well as helping others we can't bring them back, but we can continue their efforts

Positive love out of negative hate.

This is such a positive and loving testimony. I have just come from taking part in a Restorative Justice prison programme where two of the women had lost their children to drunk driver accidents and a murder. And the world wonders...

Israel is building a wall to prevent murderers from entering her land and to attempt to prevent future murders like this. Yet the United States is building a wall just to keep out economic refugees. The world condemns Israel and says is shouldn't exist, what about the plaque on the Statue of Liberty? Shouldn't it be taken down and melted into a sign that says, "KEEP OUT"? I taught Koby when he was living in the US and knew the Mandell family from Maryland. They were great people then -looking to help and inspire others in many different ways. bringing in the light

Thank you for this most beautiful video about how the phoenix does rise from the ashes of a terrible, unspeakable tragedy. I wrote the following poem the other night and I truly do believe this. If it gives solace, or means anything to anyone that is of beauty and hope, I am glad. I was once in a cave said to be the darkest cave in the world and I was so afraid. When the light in the cave were shut off we were all of us thrown into the deepest black. I held hands with my husband and the person on my left. In that most inky blackness suddenly I began to perceive shadows and there was light.
