Beautiful woman who exemplifies what life is all about: kindness.
Thank You AISH.com!
thank you for putting together this video! i started watching it maybe a year ago and i like it a lot. now that mrs. hammer is in shamayim, this is an awesome way to teach people about an inspiring person and it is a way to teach the art of "practical tzedakah". sometimes we say "i know i have to do it, but how?" well here is a perfect example. pay the butcher some extra money so someone else can feed their family real food! this is really what hashem wants from us, don't just buy something good and watch someone else do with so little. this is such a beautiful lesson in v'ahavta l'rayacha kamocha" and to beveryly kurtin, maybe now its everyone else's job to pick up the tab and if lots of people do it then it won't be so much extra money for each person.
Thank you for caring.
Thank you !!!!!
Wow
The world is diminished
I don't have much, but what can I do to help keep her work alive? Her work cannot stop simply because she is no longer physically with us. As soon as I saw her picture on the email, my heart dropped, "Who will feed those people now?" was the first question that came to my mind. Did she leave a foundation? Tax free or not, I don't care. Some other faiths say, "The poor will always be with you," so nothing is done because there is so many, so many. As a Jew I am proud that we say that the hungry are our obligation to feed; I desperately want to help. Who, what, when, how...?

Each one of us
Each one of us - whatever its age, financial and/or social situation, can find a little something to do to make our society better. Chava found it... and she gives all of us a wonderful feeling and an example to follow. We call her a heroe because people like her are few... shame on us! It is so simple, so easy to spread joy instead of sorrow!

Kol Hakavod!
How can we help her help others?
Thank you
Timely and simple reminder indeed!
even though i know her my whole life and i know the whole story, it still brought tears to my eyes.
Kindness
WOW! What can we do?
How can we emulate this behavior in our neighborhoods. It is becoming more necessary with the insecure job market but what is a good idea to help others? I think it is important to start greeting others and of course doing it in a kind way. Also, the little things make a difference. Help with local tzedakah's and volunteer in the area as well as creating new ones that don't exist. Free loan societies, (Good) Food for Shabbos, Yom Tov help, Help for Young Couples, all of these are important and all start with one person stepping up. Will there be a video about you? I hope so. Give it your best and don't give up!
"Mi K'amcha Yisrael!"
Dear Mrs. Hammer, If only you knew just how precious your giving really is! How proud you make Hashem to say, "Mi Kamech Yisrael?!" "Who is like my nation Israel?!" You give with all of your heart and soul, you give as you would give to yourself, without hesitation. There are people who give, but they give meat and chicken that is just a few days to expiring. They give, but of lesser quality, and they demand to see a bill and ask exactly what you used the money for. They give, but don't believe your refrigerator is empty. They give, BUT THEY HOLD BACK THEIR HEARTS. Thank G-d for people like you, and trust me there are still a handful of people I know that give with hearts of gold. To my mother-in-law and my fairest Grace, who give without ever ever holding back their hearts!
what a lady!
The chicken lady
Great woman worthy of emulation
beautiful !!!
When I was a little girl, I remember my mother baking breads and cakes. When someone needed food our door was always opened. we never locked our doors because we knew a lot people were hungry and when we needed something, we got it.
What happend to that style of life. We need to go back to the basics and demand the change.

only special people have that ability to give others
giving food
It's always better to give or send money for food for someone to eat rather than one spending it on his/herself. Indeed, it's a good feeling when you help finance a hungry, impoverished person a nice warm meal than it is to consume one's self. If only there was a better breadth of food than the depth of it being consumed in richer parts of the world where obesity happens to be an epidemic while other parts are ridden with famine. G-d will ask you if you helped feed the poor and hungry, as well as asking you if you conducted your businesses ethically.
Mazal Tov, Dr. Clara
We love her, G-d Bless her!
outstanding !!!!!!!!!
G-d bless Sara, too bad you couldn't make a full feature film.
My wife Leslie was a teacher in the school where Sara's son-in-law was the Dean. She started by "renting" golf pencils to the kids who came to math class without implements. Over the years it got bigger and better with many in the school getting involved and thousands of dollars a year being sent to Clara. To Dr. Clara...mazel tov.
Beautiful Story of Giving, Clara!

Shalom and God's peace to this woman. What an example for all of us to follow! I totally believe that if we all just shared alittle with everyone in the world there would be no poverty. We can do it and it starts with a sharing heart like Mrs. Hammer's. Love thy neighbor as thyself - this is the whole torah and the prophets.
Wonderful series

What a joy to see this blessed saint honored! Since we first read about her, we have been privileged to support her work for several years from the US. Clara, yes you made it to "Heroes of Israel". This is in fact what you are for always. You look and sound wonderful. I have known you for many years--not intimately--but we exchange greetings and brief conversation. We again met at the Bikur Cholim luncheon you attended with one of your lovely daughters. Now is our holiest period as we approach the Days of Awe. G-d should continue to bless you and shine his contenance upon you and your family. Please have your address appear prominently so that people can help you to fulfill this outstanding mitzvah. Shannah Tova

Chicken Lady's Address
How Wonderful
Dr. Hammer, the Mother of my Hebrew school teacher Mrs. Homnick, is a source of inspiration to my daughter, who collected contributions for her bat mitzvah service project, on this very week, years ago.
I know of Dr. Hammer's work through one of her daughters, Mrs. Homnick, who was my Hebrew school teacher in Philadelphia. She was the teacher of both my sister and I at Gratz College Hebrew High School. Rabbi Homnick has been our spiritual consultant for years. I was thrilled that my daughter recently collected funds for the Chicken Lady of Jerusalem as part of her bat mitzvah service project. Dr. Hammer has inspired generations of people to help others. Thank you Yeshiva University for honoring her with a doctorate. She educated her three daughters, who then educated countless others, who then educated their children. There are generations of women benefitting from the path Dr. Hammer has chosen, in addition to all the people she feeds. THANK YOU.
To contribute
LONG HISTORY OF TZEDAKA
Very well-done, inspiring film.Setting great example.
Your short film about Dr. Clara Hammer, the Chicken Lady of Jerusalem, is well-done and thought-provoking. At age 70 for Clara Hammer to have started a fund that provides Shabbat needs for so many destitute families and continuing it into her 98th year - is a great achievememnt indeed. This was recently recognized by Yeshiva University in the form of an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. The many contributors to her fund are witnesses to the inspiration she provides for all.
Always So Proud of Our Cousin Clara!
Meeting her was the highlight of my trip to Israel
From an article on Aish maybe seven or eight years ago, I read of Clara's work for the poor and started sending her money. On my last trip I called and said I would be in Jerusalem for a couple weeks and would it be possible to visit her. "It is Yerusahlim, not Jerusalem and of course you could come over" I am not a freakishly religious person, but sitting there with her talking about how she started the Chicken Lady Fund, I could feel the presence of HaShem touching her. It gave me more of a holy feeling than I had experienced before. I've given her name out for others to send money to when they are in need of business and I have had other people make out checks to her instead of paying me. I don't know how anyone could be more loved by HaShem than Clara Hammer, bless her.
She is HONORED!
According to Pirkei Avot, Dr. Hammer is to be honored because she honors others. Her doctoral dissertation was written with incomprehensible love for others and an example for all of Israel. Her example has inspired me to attempt to emulate her efforts in my part of the world. It tears at my heart that within a quarter of a mile from me I know that children are going to bed hungry as are their parents. Here in America that should happen? No. That should happen anywhere in the world? No. Of the three things necessary for human survival are food, clothing and shelter. Thank you Dr. Hammer for reminding us all that hunger is still a problem. With all the surplus food there is, her efforts can and must continue throughout the world.
a message about love
Such a beautiful lady! I was curious, as was another, as to where the funds come from to do this. It's not necessary to know this. What she's doing is admirable and she speaks a deep truth for us all. Perhaps this can "egg" us all on to doing something good today and every day, for others. After all, Egged is a transportation system. I do believe in "E" motion!
Clara Hammer is a hero of the Jewish Peple!
How does she do it?
