But I don't thing we went through nearly as much danger and hardship as you did. I don't say this often but God bless you! And God Bless Israel!

Wow! what an amaizing story. I didn’t know as well that Africa has tigers at all; accept the tigrayan people in northern Ethiopia!

So amazed at your courage and your faith!
As an American Jew and an immigrant and survivor from Nazi Germany, I am so proud of your faith and courage! For sure what binds all of us proud Jews and Zionists, is our inner belief that cannot Israel is here to stay forever and ever! May the Jews of the diasporah not forget their origins! May the leaders of the world not abandon us with their lofty, naive concepts that endangers our very existance as well as the future of our world! God bless you! Sincerely, Rita Grunberg

Since the time of Solomon
Terrific story, was involved with raising awareness of the Ethiopian Jews back in the time of Operation Solomon. Quite a difference to the plight of blacks in the Sudan. I hope they are receiving better treatment in present day Israel and more acceptance. There is some problem see "Live and Become".

When I look around me in the Jewish communities in the USA and find so little love and concern left for Israel, for our future as a people.
It is heart wrenching and scary. This man epitomizes the love for the meaning of Eretz Israel, remaining loyal Jews to our heritage. Israel is our most sacred and cherished gift. Worth protecting with our lives every minute of everyday till eternity.
This incredible man walked to the ends of the earth and thru hell to reach Israel.
What more can anyone say or do, to match his loyalty, his total commitment.

Dear Friends at AISH,

I wish everyone reading this to have a wonderful day, and pray for Israel's security. She needs it.

very inspirational story. I got chills. People don't realize what kind of honor it is to live in Israel and how special it is. People dream of being in this land and people walked by foot from their original countries because they feel in their hearts that it is their place to be, it is home. Kol a kaod laem!!! am yisrael hai, medinat yisrael hai!

This is the "Essence" of 'being a Jew.'
I was greatly moved by this story. I had no idea of the zeal that these Ethiopian Jews have for the State of Israel, as their "homeland." We Jews, here in America, can take a lesson from them!
October 29, 2008 8:49 PM

So inspiring to hear what he went through to come to Israel. Such self sacrifice.. it should be an inspiration to us all - the challenges the Ethiopian jews faced when they came to the land - yet that didn''''t stop them from coming. They have simple faith in G-D.
October 29, 2008 9:07 AM
Jerusalem is our eternal source of energy
I keep asking myself, why can people in Israel not see what we Jews in the Diaspora see?
Perhaps we should exchange places with them, therefore, they will have once again love for our State.
We need more Jewish immigrants to recharge our Jewish heritage and our Zionism.

October 28, 2008 8:01 PM
Wow. That is really cool that you traveled all the way from Ethiopia to Israel! I think that makes a really good story to tell...I bet you tell it to everyone you meet!
October 28, 2008 7:20 PM
His faith humbles me.
In today''s concern for falling stock markets and bank failures, it is good to hear of true wealth: unquestionable faith in God.
Thank you for sharing this hero''s epic with us.

A True Achiever
Too often in Western society we take our freedoms for granted. Kol Ha'Kovod for what he has achieved! He is a true gadol
October 28, 2008 5:00 PM
We need to show to the world this and other great deeds in Israel.
We must bring the inspiring humanistic message of Israel and how no one remains, unlike our neighbors, a refugee in Israel desapite having left all their earthly belongings in the countries most had to leave. Put it all on Utube. We need to reach the world's youth who are being misinformed by their local media.
October 28, 2008 3:51 PM
Very moving, very inspiring, very humbling.
October 28, 2008 12:42 PM
We all , survivers of the families face holocausts came from jewish heros
I have to congratulate another jewish hero! he is hero because other unknown heros lost their lie for jewish cause. let to bring our estim and remember love to them. We have not to forget other category of jewish heros, The Heros came from mixt families , also unknown heros, who bring a serious cotribution to the jewish existential life. let them to be our heros too.

What an articulate young man. May he have infuence in the to help all the minorities in Israel, who have faloen in the cracks!
May father many children as wonderful as he.
October 28, 2008 8:23 AM
Wish he would communicate his success to Muslims.
You demonstrated such an incredible drive. I revel in your success. Wish that your accomplishments could be shared with Muslims who sought to murder you, even before they knew you were Jewish.
October 28, 2008 4:27 AM
Thanks for the inspiring story from Knesset. I am from Africa, I wish I could come from Israel too, Israel is very special

we need more jews!
This underscores that we need more Jews from whatever background they come. When someone wants to become Jewish we must work hard to welcome him or her into our family. Their degree of observance can be enhanced as they progress through their Jewish life. We must not keep people out because their level of observance at the entrance point is not that of a haredi. We must welcome them if we believe they are sincere in being Jewish. Orthodox observant Jews can then help them increase their observancy with honey not threats, but with loving guidance to whatever level the new Jew can achieve.

AM ISRAEL CHAI
What a beautiful story - amazing - so inspiring! It makes me realize how much we take for granted. The nesharim of the Ethiopian Jews is heart-warming! What they endured to get to the Promised Land is incredible. And thank G-d for Israel and the IDF! G-d Bless Them!

Judaism in Ethiopia
It is quite touching. Islam is very bellicose and very different from Judaism

We salute Ethiopian JEWS
Because of this story and all we have heard and our meetings in Israel, we have determined to channel our contributions (meager as they are) to those in Israel and Ethiopia.
October 27, 2008 4:00 PM
What happened to the rest of the story
I hung on every word and felt this person is out of the ordinary. We heard and observed on the video about a rmarkable event that took place in the past. It shows strength and perseverance even far back as a youth. But what was missing, it seems to me, was knowing about his life today, his work at the Knesset...no doubt he must be prowd to be serving as a member. Is it still possible to get this into the video? I hope so.
October 27, 2008 3:51 PM
This the film of of a person's faith, love and perserverance. G-d's promise and consistence hesed and love of His people, the Jewish people is everlasting. Shalom. Return Home. Make Aliyah Today.
October 27, 2008 3:49 PM
magnificent-inspirational -a lesson of determination
we need more of these dedicated, devoted young people
October 27, 2008 3:47 PM
Great & very touching
Apart from the fact that he must have seen a leopard and not a tiger,(There are no Tigers in Africa)ther relevance of the story is that of love and dedication to his country and a srong drive to self empowerment

This is very moving. I know the plight of the Ethiopian Jews because I live in Israel and was here when the miracle of their return occurred. How-ever, how could they walk 780 km (in the desert) in one week?
October 27, 2008 1:17 PM
Ethiopia to Israel
I enjoyed very much this video, the gentlrman's wonderful story, the photos of the lands he crossed, and happy he arrived in Israel safe and sound, and joined with his family.
October 27, 2008 12:57 PM
if we all had to survive like this there would be a lot less people. I imagine he cherishes everyday like its a gift from g-d
October 27, 2008 12:31 PM
Marvelous, inspiring survival story. I suspect this man would be an asset wherever he was -- assuming he was given the chance. A chance he got in Israel. Ethopia's loss, our gain!
October 27, 2008 12:08 PM
What a awesome story.
Another reason for Israel to stay strong and believe in Zionism!

I can't belive Shlomo made it to the knesset, kol hakavod!. We where studing together in Haifa. He was a good student and a sympatic person.I am not living in Israel now, but I am seeing this clip in Norway thru aish.com. webside. If you see this message Shlomo, take care and good luck from Norway! Warm greetings from Renée
October 27, 2008 11:35 AM
What an inspiring story
This is an amazing and inspiring story. What a gift to the Jews of the world to have Israel, where we can be free to achieve all that we are able. I am especially touched that Jews from Ethopia and elsewhere give Jews and the Jewish message, Judiasm, a multi-ethnic and therefore universal aspect. I believe that Jews should welcome everyone who wishes to live, learn and teach the Torah.
October 27, 2008 11:01 AM
Do you have extended videos that can be shown in public, to present this picture of Israel?
October 27, 2008 10:33 AM
More and more so I realize, real life dramas are so far astonishing than any fiction. Even more so when someone overcomes impossible odds but only through the grace of the Eternal One. Even then, it is He who exceeds above and beyond any expectation, the Only One who can take perhaps one the most primitive uneducated people on earth and transform them to the level of one of the mosy advanced and unique nations on the planet. Moving, riveting and almost unbelievable.
October 27, 2008 10:18 AM
israel is the root of the tree of life.
October 27, 2008 10:14 AM
My respect for Shlomo Mula and for the State of Israel they both are the model of the Democratic world and to Shlomo and all the people like him, thank you for the great example you gave us.
October 27, 2008 10:08 AM
tigers and leopards
In Israel, the word for "tiger" and "leopard" are interchangeable. There are certainly leopards in Africa.
October 27, 2008 10:03 AM
The Beta Israel of Ethiopia are our relatives. And as such, are not just "Jews" returning to their home land, but should be welcomed, assisted, supported, and loved as long lost family, returning to "our" home.
They are us and we them....
October 27, 2008 10:02 AM
Your story fills me w hope that one day soon all of us Latin American Jews will one day soon inhabit the Negev as the prophecy states. I have faith and hope that i am still living to see that day come true. Your courageous journey was well worth it.
October 27, 2008 9:51 AM
A story of courage, hope, faith, tenacity
Clearly, from this we see that we can achieve so much... it does take hard work, but in america we have so much, so many resources, we only lack courage and faith. With courage and faith we can achieve so much for our fellow Jews, for ourselves, for Am Yisroel. Keep G-d at the center of all we do and we will succeed! May we all merit to come home to Israel soon. May we have shalom amongst all Jews, where ever we are in the World, may we always be unified as one People, under G-d!
October 27, 2008 5:56 AM
There are tigers in Africa
Dietmar, Tigers are from Africa or India, just like elephants, monkeys and many other animals.
October 27, 2008 1:12 AM
Kol hakavod to Shlomo Mula
Kol hakavod to Shlomo Mula and to the other Ethiopian Jews who endured so much to stay Jewish and to make aliyah under such difficult circumstances. And kol hakavod to Aish for telling Shlomo Mula's story. May it become well known among the Jewish people and throughout the world.
October 26, 2008 11:34 PM
This is so important for every Jew to know and understand about the Ethiopians in Israel and those still in Ethiopia. Amazing story and amazing person. I recommend this video to everyone who wants to learn more about the real people of Israel.
October 26, 2008 9:18 PM
Great story, but since when are tigers in Africa?
This is an amazing story. I am only disturbed by the statement that he met tigers in Africa. As far as I know there are no tigers in Africa.

How the Soul Yearning to return home inspires.
We must be totally moved by this trek toward Home. A human who has done this is remarkable for his strength of purpose despite the harrowing journey.
I honor him, and the others who survived and thrived.

the amazing journey!
What an incredible story of a journey, through hardship, through the desert, to a new land. I found this very inspiring. Sadly some did not make it. I saw a movie recently about Operation Solomon. We are all of us deeply connected to each other and here in this video that is so much a soul adventure is something of great wonder.

Operation Solomon 1984
I was in Tzfat when Operation Solomon happened. People moved in right across the street from me. At the time Tzfat happened to have a lot of empty apartments. When the Russians came, they were sent to the South as appartments were available there at the time. It didn't take long for The Ethiopian Jews to acclimate and learn to maneuver in supermarkets, etc. They put on a lovely art show of things they had crafted. This is wonderful that progress continues and they are doing so well in Israel.
