It's a beautiful film but confusing, especially for extra Europeans. It gives an impression that Nazis were from Poland while actually they were German. This is rather confusing. this is why I really dislike it. the main pursue of the film is historical truth and it does not tell the whole truth.

The Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland involved the implementation of German policy of systematic and mostly successful destruction of indigenous Polish-Jewish population. Throughout the German occupation, many Poles – at great risk to themselves and their families – engaged in rescuing Jews from the Nazis. They were Germans but they were in Poland, an in fact, resulted in the death of over one million Jews from across Europe.

Beautiful but incompete

Although well-intentioned, I believe this film may be misinterpreted. At the end the girl says if they don't remember then who will?"-Now, I may be wrong, but judging from the focus-on-the-positive/spiritual message the prior scenes have carried, and because her phrase was juxtaposed to be a counterbalance to the boy's phrase, what she meant was, "well if grandma and grandpa, who lived through this, chose to remember the positive aspect of this, and not focus (in fact not remember) on the negative aspect of this, then the whole world will see how we Jews were able to transform this whole ugly situation into a source of light"-Beautiful, right? I am only troubled by one aspect: it is not according to the Torah. When Jacob was preparing to meet Esau he did three things: 1) he first tried to appease Esau by sending him lavish gifts 2) he prayed to G-d to protect him from Esau and finally, when he saw that a confrontation was inevitable 3) he split his camp and prepared for battle. Although this film may be a beautiful representation of number two, it is incomplete in that it does not represent number one and number three. Although we all hope that we will be able to stop the Esaus with appeasement, and then we pray that we may be able to stop the Esaus by strengthening ourselves spiritually (as this film seems to imply) he must not forget that even someone who is such spiritual giant as Jacob must sometimes take up the sword and shield. I think we owe it to generations past, present, and future to utilize all three strategies correctly, as did our forefather Jacob.

If not us, who?
Iliana says it all, when toward the end she says, if we don't remember, who will? Some are already trying to convince the world that it didn't exist. If we don't remember, who will? Offers powerful but stimulating inspiration. Thank you.

LOVE NEVER DIES
HASHEM has stamped in our hearts LOVE AND LIFE. No tatoo can ever mark us for death. HASHEM blesses those who bless us but destroys those who curse us.
