Blood Meal Fertilizer

Is it permissible to use blood meal fertilizer on crops? Does the prohibition against consuming blood include deriving benefit from it, or is it limited to consumption as food?

The Aish Rabbi Replies:

Consumption of blood is forbidden, but we may benefit from it. In fact, in Temple times the blood from the altar was sold for fertilizer use.
