The events of the past week were the latest and most shocking demonstration of a country aflame, divided by hatred that makes a mockery of the descriptive name United States of America. After a summer of riots and protests that pitted neighbors against neighbors, friends and family against each other, it at last has come to this – an attack on the Capitol at the very moment that its elected representatives sought to carry out their constitutional duty to determine the democratically elected leader of the nation.
I tremble at the thought of this country, blessed by God as no other in recent history, being destroyed not by external enemies but – as so many empires in the past – perishing from within, a suicide of self-created madness and insanity.
We must find a way to move forward that will return us to an appreciation of the values and the ideals which were the original source of our greatness.
The miracle we need today is the one God chose as he made his first appearance to Moses and appointed him to become the leader of the Jewish people. To make himself known, God chose to appear in a bush which was burning and yet miraculously was not consumed. This was a message. Moses had fled Egypt while his people faced the flames of hatred and servitude. Perhaps, Moses feared, his people had perished. So God reassured him from the midst of the bush that a miracle of survival against all odds was possible. As long as the Hebrews continued to hold onto their belief and heard the message of the Almighty in their own lives, the fire would not be a fire of destruction.
The bush was called sneh in Hebrew. That word would give the name to the single, most important location as a source for ethics, morality and civilization. The very spot where God chose Moses and taught him the way to miraculously assure survival would later become better known as Mount Sinai – Sinai from the word sneh.
What made America different and assured its divine blessing was clearly understood by its founders.
Benjamin Franklin summarized the futility of trying to build a nation by man’s power alone, and the need for God’s assistance: “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His concurring aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that ‘except the Lord build the house they labor in vain who build it.’ I firmly believe this, and also that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel.”
John Adams, in 1756, put it beautifully: "Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Utopia, what a Paradise would this region be."
Here are the words from George Washington’s farewell address: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.... And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion ... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle.”
These are the ideas enshrined in the Declaration of Independence: “We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states; … And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."
In all of the countless responses to the horrible events which today threaten our democracy, I do not find emphasized the words of our founders. We need to put in the forefront the idea that “all men are created equal” for it is the recognition of our shared uniqueness as creations in the image of God that requires us to come together in mutual respect and goodwill.
After last week’s tragedy, it is no longer politicians who can assure our survival. America needs a powerful affirmation of its spiritual uniqueness. It is spiritual leaders with the message of faithfulness to the ethical and moral messages of Sinai whose voices need most to be raised – and to be heard.
We need to lower the volume of hate and recrimination that blare forth from the headlines and amplify the still small voice that seeks to remind us of our obligation to see the Almighty in the midst of the flames of the burning bush. That is the vision which will ensure that we and the dream of America’s founding fathers will not be consumed.

What can I say? That hasn't been said before?
After the Vietnam War, our 'educational' institutions were taken over by secular humanists. Well intentioned perhaps but misguided. When I think of our veterans, from the Revolutionary War, Civil War,WW1, WW2, etc. who sacrificed their lives, families etc. so we could have all that we have, it breaks my heart! We have sunk so low between our gov't at every level, the media, etc. there is no turning back without Hashem!

AMERICA.
From my perspective now that I'm 81 going on 82 I'm not sure that the America, I grew up in will be around much longer. Born in 1939 June, I remember WW2 , Korea, the nifty 50 Fifty as it is called, Vietnam, and on and on. I will say this never never have I seen such HATRED in America as I see now. Maybe this is the last days of America. I PRAY everyday for GOD to help us. I hope it doesn't get any worse but I'm afraid that it will.

Summer riot comparison
The riots this summer which were awful agave nothing to do with the riot at the capitol. You said it as if this was the culmination of that. I saw pictures of observant Jews at this riot or “rally” as it has been called and was so incredibly disappointed.

Note: Although the founding fathers believed that religion and morality are the foundation of a political system's success, in reality political systems and everything in life only exist as tools to aide us in our religious and moral journey. It isn't important at all for American values to last. We need religion, meaning the prophesies that were given to us through Moses, to last and flourish. The only reason the US is considered by many to be special is because it was founded on religious values. The point is the religious values; not American values.

You nailed it.
Well put. Its the mobbing headlines that divide (but upon studying the websites of the UN and its 1001 taskforces carefully, I think it is strategically intended primarily from without to destroy the US from within.. Anyone who worked in offices knows that when mobbing occurs (modern name for lashon hara) 2 fighting groups pop up. One campaigning against the victim and usually a smaller one defending the victim. I guess without lashon hara companies would do a lot better and countries too......

OPEN UP TO READING AND WATCHING NEWS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES
This is a lovely article, but I stress everyone to stop being brainwashed by Fox News and the like. I study Torah weekly and have a deep love for HaShem. To say all BLM and Democrats are far leftist and hate G-d is FALSE. UNFAIR and just alienates those who could be allies. You are part of the problem when you categorize a group in this way. It's putting your head in the sand. Yes, there are some on the far left who are no friend of Israel and the Jews, but this is certainly not all on the "left". Do not be blind to part of the "Right" who are following Trump as if he is G-d. They displayed their anti-semetic and racist views out in the open last Wednesday. Did you see the 6MWE t-shirts? The Camp Auschwitz sweatshirts? Horrifying and These are RIGHT Trump supporters, don't be fooled by conspiracy theories. If you dig and read something other than biased conservative news, you will have a global view and not be sucked into believing. Additionally, I could not be prouder of the amount of push back Jewish students show when faced with anti-sematic rhetoric in schools. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford or wants to attend a private; religious school. That's life in the real world. It's those in "the real world" who stand up to these people and make a difference. Not those who speak from their bubbles....it is evident these comments are mostly from a bubble and from those with little experience dealing with good people of all races and religions. We won't have peace if we only agree with and only spend time with those who think the exact same as ourselves. This only adds to the problems in this country

With all due respect, you clearly have no interest in seeking out information that does not agree with your agenda. Do you know any people who are not racist? Who may even have a non-jewish friend? There is a BIG WIDE WORLD out there-many wonderful people to collaborate with and share ideas. Anyone who brings up idiotic phrases like "hiding in Biden's basement" has no interest in finding common ground with a fellow Jew who doesn't pray to Fox news. BYEEEEEE
LarryB, January 12, 2021 1:41 AM
Cancel culture is everywhere
Anonymous is the best example of cancel culture rhetoric. First he tells us
“ but I stress (everyone) to stop being brainwashed by Fox News and the like”
Then he tells us “ To say all BLM and Democrats are far leftist and hate G-d is FALSE. UNFAIR and just alienates those who could be allies. ”
Basically accusing everyone with exactly what he is doing. The rest of his post is more of the same culture rhetoric with the added threat of:
“ We won't have peace if we only agree with and only spend time with those who think the exact same as ourselves.”
This same rhetoric is being played out this weekend in the news where people are actually being fired for just going to the rally is DC. No violence necessary. Corporations are threatening businesses and individuals with any kind of ties to anyone who may have gone to the rally. I Believe these Nazi tactics will ultimately lose in the courts and many other country leaders are speaking out against them because they know if the US citizens lose their freedoms, the rest of the world will follow.

Remember, there were an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people at the Capitol on June 6. How many evil T-shirts were seen? How many of the windows in the Capitol Building were broken by Antifa and BLM? We will never know. One thing I do know is that if that crowd of Americans were insurrectionists, the 800 Capitol police and 2300 DC police wouldn’t have been able to stop a takeover.

Save America with BUBE MEISES and Rabbi Prieda's Patient Wisdom?
Rabbi Blech, You know what a BUBE MEISE is, I am sure.
A BUBE MEISE is a story, a grandmother's tale. Often the stories are not true,
and they suggest lies and falsehoods. Politics is filled with these stories.
The problem is that we can become so attached to some BUBE MEISES that
we become deaf to the truth. The USA is suffering from this, now.
=============================================================
Now, there is a story in the Talmud of a Rabbi Preida, who had a difficult
student. This student needed 400 repetitions of every lesson in order to learn.
One day, the student was distracted, and Rabbi Preida gave him 400 more
repetitions, for a total of 800. For his patience, Preida was rewarded.
(Eruvin 54B)
Now, with so many BUBE MEISES floating around, we may need patient
teachers (like Rabbi Preida) who can repeat, repeat, repeat, until the truth is
evident to more and more people, so we can move forward, not backward...
THANKS MUCH H

I agree with everything you say in the article. But as a Jew you must see that the P C in America is telling you to go HOME. Every time Trump mentioned the American Biblical values he was criticized and condemned. Rav Shmuel Eliyahu put it painfully and clearly in a recent address: a country crumbles from within when hedonism and wealth replace family and responsibility as key values.
May God help America!
And may at least some of the Jews there see the writing on the walls.

Beautifully stated!
This country will not survive if it goes down the leftist path of Godlessness.
We need to restore morality, and do away with false narratives and corruption and deceit.
Let us take to heart the wise words of Benjamin Franklin and John Adams and George Washington.

Great truth, great words
We all need to listen and adhere to these principles in order to survive as a great nation, and as people under G-d, the G-d of Israel. Without our G-d we cannot survive, without G-d we are doomed!! Great message, I wish all would take these words to heart!!!!
(39) Carol, January 11, 2021 1:54 AM
Agree. We need calm and moral conviction which recognizes that each person matters.
I pray for calm to be restored so we may go forward and take responsibility for restoring order in thought and in action. We must be conscious of, and abide by, the US Constitution. Rabbi Sack’s book “MORALITY: Restoring the Common Good in Divided Times,” published Sept 2020, pub. Basic Books, spells it out clearly and eloquently. It is up to each and all of us.
(38) Anonymous, January 11, 2021 12:18 AM
This article explains exactly why America is doomed.
Rabbi Blech is quite correct: we need to "see the Almighty in the midst of the flames of the burning bush." And that's exactly why America is doomed. The Left has no room for G-d in its agenda. Indeed, the Left has been doing everything it can to completely remove G-d, and family, from the picture. After all, if people can't turn to G-d or family for help with adversity, they will have no place to turn but the government. This is precisely what the left wants, as it will give them control over the populace.
Dianne Murray, January 11, 2021 7:18 AM
There are plenty of us on the left who beleive in the Almighty.
May God bless you with some humility and discernment and common sense. Just because some people on the left don't believe in HaShem doesn't mean everyone on the left is 'godless'. Just because you believe in G-d, doesn't mean everyone on the right believes in God. G-d is not Republican, G-d is not Democrat. God is above all that. Those are not leftist breaking into the Capitol building. Those are right wing supporters of President Trump. Many people on the right and left disagree with what they did. May God bless you with whatever will get you to see people the way God wants you to see them.
MICHAEL AMSEL, January 11, 2021 1:38 PM
To Dianne
Thanks for the blessing, I can definitely do with some more humility and common sense. Of course there are from the left who are G-D fearing people (though it seems percentage is pretty small). But what I was referring to is to the general ideas of the left which at this point is completely stripped from any G-dliness and this you can't deny.
Anonymous, January 11, 2021 4:08 PM
Agree!
I agree with you. Being leftist AND believing in God is an oxymoron. Clearly the leftist person isn't aware that the left bases its existence on denying the very existence of God, the religion being, in their opinion, "the opium of the people". I'm sorry but you can't have both. Last but not least, there isn't one single country in the world where the left has succeeded. It's always the free market system and democracy that must fix the disasters they create. May we soon see the arrival of Moshiach Tzidkeinu and our Bais HaMikdash be buitl speedily in our days!

I would like to commend you on this very true article especially the sources you have provided from the founding fathers of this country. I am sure that like me most if not all receivers of this Aish email with your article will 100% agree. Having said that, my question to you is how will it help if only we -the one who anyways believe in the content- will get it, which is considered as the saying goes "preaching to the choir". The one who really needs to get it and be persuaded are the left cronies, who's ideology is completely not inline with the above. And honestly -at this point-I am not sure that anything can be done by man. My personal belief and consolation is that it is a grand plan from up above and therefore out of our control. Only someone powerful like MOSHIACH can stop the chaos in Israel, America and the entire world, and bring back peace and order to the world. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Sincerely.

I was not necessarily talking about the terrible attack on Capitol hill last week. I was referring more to the ethic and morality aspect that that could only be guided by religion as mentioned in the article. And I am sure I don't have to tell you where the left stand on these issues.
Just FYI, someone told me that at least some of the hooligans last week were leftist, in order to create a bad image to the right in general and Trump in particular

The actions of the extreme left have normalized violence over civil political discourse.
To Ray and to Anonymous: Whether or not some people in the mob were from the left (and there is some evidence that there were) the truth is that over the past year or more, the violence in our country has come from the extreme left, including Black Lives Matter and Antifa. Riots, arson, looting, personal assaults and property damage were all given a pass by the left loving media, and even some of our elected representatives enabled it by bailing out perpetrators and turning a blind eye or at times signaling approval. Some in office called on Democrats to harass Republicans in restaurants and stores and even in their own homes. This did not justify what happened at the Capitol but certainly set the stage for the tragic events of January 6.
Bunny Shuch, January 11, 2021 6:27 AM
Over the past year or more, extreme left wing groups have normalized violence over civil political discourse.
To Ray and Anonymous: Whether or not there were leftist agitators involved in the January 6 riot (and there apparently is some evidence that there were) the violence of the extreme left over the past year or more (by BLM, Antifa and others) that has been glossed over and accepted by the left leaning media and actually abetted by some of our elected representatives, has normalized this kind of reprehensible conduct. The Republican Party has tried to keep the right wing extremists out of their ranks, while the Democratic Party has been courting and elevating some of the left wing extremists in theirs, such as BLM, "the Squad," Linda Sarsour, Louis Farrakhan and others. Our country needs to return to civilized political debate and discourse.
Anonymous, January 12, 2021 3:23 PM
Are you sure out of the estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people there they were all extreme Trump supporters? Do you think maybe some who broke into the Capitol Building might have been instigators from Antifa and BLM and extreme Left?
(35) Anonymous, January 10, 2021 9:50 PM
I was there - it was very peaceful from Trump supporters side, people came with children and kids strollers, all the violence was from Antifa and BLM - the one that sat in Pelosi's chair was BLM one of the chairmen and those who wanted to break windows were Antifa and Trump supporters tried to stop them. It was a giant provocation and police was removed and barriers were opened. Leftists are the ones that really instill hatred and intolerance. I am an old Jewish religious woman, born in USSR and I see how USA is quickly transforming into Union of Soviet Socialist States with witch hunt against Trump supporters and absence of freedoms that is inevitable in leftist state. They want people to be afraid of exchanging opinions and ideas as leftists ideas do not survive any critical approach.

Returning to ALL Jewish Values
I appreciate Rabbi Blech's hope that Americans can come together and return "to an appreciation of the values and the ideals which were the original source of our greatness."
As a liberal Democrat and a non-Orthodox Jew with many Orthodox family members, I believe that we must strive to understand the world from each other's perspectives.
For me, this means that I need to understand, for example, the perspective of the cake baker who will serve all customers but chooses not to decorate a wedding cake with a message relating to a gay marriage.
I also need to understand the perspective of Orthodox Jews who believe that America's commitment to "freedom of religion" extends to the freedom to educate their children in an (accredited) religious school without having all of their school-related property taxes go to secular/public schools.
For my Orthodox Jewish family and friends, I hope that they see how Judaism's commitment to helping the poor and the oppressed extends to supporting policies designed to undo the devastating impacts of racism and inequity as well as supporting policies designed to welcome immigrants who are fleeing persecution.
My hope is that if we are all guided by compassion and commitments to justice and equity, we can build a world that lives up to ideals that are Jewish as well as American.
-- Robert N Brown (Cleveland, by way of Philadelphia)
Rachel, January 11, 2021 3:16 AM
Since you asked
The baker was more than willing to sell a wedding cake to the two men. He objected to placing a man-man decoration on top. For this, many leftist extremists made death threats against him.
Do you think they would make death threats if a Muslim baker refused to do likewise or if a Muslim baker refused to place a pig decoration on a cake? Does a Muslim baker have the right to decline to make a Miss Piggy cake?
I need to know why the "tolerant" require Mr Christian Baker to put a groom-groom deco on top of a cake, when the guys getting married could have bought one themselves and placed it. Why do Catholic Charities have to commit to placing foster or adopted children in same sex homes when there are other agencies that can do that? Why must nuns get bullied into providing contraceptives, when they are actually rather inexpensive and people can buy their own?
As for the poor and oppressed, I think Judaism teaches that the ultimate oppression is to allow innocent children to attend failing schools while corrupt politicians enjoy big donations from teachers unions that don't want competition. Without the education, disadvantaged kids will never get anywhere, no matter how many diversity officers get paid handsome salaries to dictate conditions to employers, schools, and companies in the NASDAQ.
Anonymous, January 11, 2021 5:56 AM
Right on!
I agree with Rachel! The case of the baker is different from the case of the marriage license clerk. Government employees need to treat everyone the same and if this disagrees with their beliefs, they have the right to leave and find another job or assign the needs of the homosexual couple to a co-worker. However, private businesses should be treated with a different standard. The homosexual couple could have bought a generic cake from the baker and put the finishing touches on it themselves, or gone to one of the many other bakers in town who would have accommodated them. Why would they want a cake decorated by someone who wasn't happy for them? This was maliciousness on their part. The couple had the right to be able to buy anything that was already on the shelves or go elsewhere and the bakers had the right to remain true to their religious beliefs. When there were no Chanukah decorations for sale at Hobby Lobby, allegedly due to the religious beliefs of the owner, I didn't try to make them either carry them or otherwise be bankrupted and forced out of business! I just went to another store. That's what freedom is all about. They have their rights and I have mine.

Disagree
If we can learn anything from history, it's that it repeats itself. After Germany's defeat in WWI, their leaders, who should have acknowledged that they were the aggressors and suffered a defeat at the hands of the Allies, instead sought an alternative narrative - the lie that their military leaders had been stabbed in the back by liberal democratic politicians. They had no proof but the narrative sat well with the people. This lead to the secret rearming of Germany in violation of the Versailles Peace Treaty, the creation of the Nazi Party made up of criminals, thugs, failed military officials, the myth of a Jewish conspiracy to destroy Germany, etc.
Adolf Hitler realized that he could get away with a "Big Lie" about the Jews being the cause of Germany's defeat because no one would believe that he "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."
Thus, ordinary Germans, who trusted Hitler for his ability to restore the economy, make Germany great again, and restore pride, were willing to overlook his imprisonment and assault on his opponents. The Nazi thugs attacked politicians and anyone else who disagreed with their position.
I agree that violent behavior on the part of Black Lives Matter and other leftist anarchists is abhorrent and those who condone or perpetrate violence need to be held accountable. But ask yourself this - can you equate violence against property and police following the DEATH of individuals with violence against property and police based on a FALSE ALLEGATION that election results were rigged? The fact is that no one has been able to prove widespread voter irregularity in any state in this county.
To quote Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, z'l - “If we want God to listen to us, we have to be prepared to listen to Him. And if we learn to listen to Him, then we eventually learn to listen to our fellow humans: the silent cry of the lonely, the poor, the weak, the vulnerable, the people in existential pain.”

Democrat self-righteousness
Notice how lefty sympathizers love to bring in hitler when accusing Trump of something. Anonymous' downplays the violence perpetrated by the left and BLM over the summer, including the BLM anti-Semitic attack in Ca. And yes, the summer insurgents did kill. This did not stop the Democrat politicians from telling the police to stand down while they rushed to have those few arrested be released w/o bail.

Hitler controlled the media
The media hates Trump. thats how they spread their misinformation. Trump tweets. The impeachment of Trump started by the Washington Post, an enemy of Trump, he wants to break amazon up, the owner Jeff Bezos also owns Washington Post, by claiming the impeachment of him had begun on his inaguration day. As for Hitler, he realized he could get away with his Big Lie only if he controlled the media. It started in I think 1933. "Goebbels was made director of their propaganda ministry, he soon envisioned an empire that would control schools, universities, film, radio, and propaganda. “The national education of the German people,” he wrote, “will be placed in my hands.” Goebbels wielded enormous influence. Film, radio, theater, and the press largely fell under Goebbels’s jurisdiction (though he shared power over the press with the head of the Reich Press Chamber, Max Amann, the Nazi newspaper magnate, and after 1937 with Otto Dietrich, head of the Reich Press Office). "
The media is controlled by the left, CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, ABC. Fox is somewhat normal. Only at CNN etc. when buildings and businesses are burning we are told that the riots are mostly peaceful.

The People’s Republic of America
Sorry, but I have to agree with most of the comments. This article says nothing useful. America as founded is officially dead. It died long time ago but we were too complacent to even notice it. Now I fear it is too late. G-d has given up on America. After all, why would He want to save a country in which its leaders cheer and celebrate when they pass laws to legalize infanticide and actively encourage the killing of unborn lives?
(28) Anonymous, January 10, 2021 5:32 PM
Trump - what did you expect?
From the moment videos of Trump rallies began to circulate before the 2016 USA election it was obvious that Trump was using the same rhetoric and strategies used by Hitler. Yet a significant number of Jews, Blacks and Hispanics supported him all for the wrong and misguided reasons. When an obviously insane individual appeals to groups and individuals that think of you as less than human, only a low degree of critical thinking is needed to imagine the eventual results.
rambam, January 10, 2021 5:37 PM
Are you out of your mind????
Mr. Anonymous...you are without question deluded by your loyalty to the Left, over and above any shred of fealty you might still have for your own people.
Trump has been the best friend Israel and the Jews have EVER had in the White House. Why do you choose to ignore that? Now that the Left has taken control, perhaps delivering you the Fundamental Transformation of the United States into a Socialist Third World Banana Republic that you so desire, Israel will be the target of their wrath, their Jew-hatred that is masked as "concern" for the fake 'palestinians'.
You are so very wrong it would be funny were it not so tragic. No doubt Trump has more Jewish grandchildren than you ever will.

Once Again, the Left Knows Nothing of Hitler
The people who accuse Trump of being Hitlerian know nothing about actual Nazis. Not all populists are the same. I have yet to meet someone on the Left who can tell me how Trump ties into Ariosophy, Guido von List, the artistic movement of futurism, or who can explain how fascism originated in Italy and Spain (not Germany). Your side made the false assumption of equating "American" with "white man". That's a false equivalence, as is the equation of nationalism with fascism.
The ignorance of history precludes even honest debate.

This is as outrageous as it is ignorant, "As stated by the National Council of Young Israel, “To in any way liken President Trump to Adolf Hitler, who is arguably the most heinous anti-Semite in world history, is unequivocally repugnant, and trivializing the Holocaust to make a cheap political point on television is a tremendous insult to the victims and their progeny.”

Swim Upstream
I think it's clear: politics matter, but are no substitute for Gd. If we forget Him, then what are we fighting for? For all of us who feel powerless under the current state of things, and soon to be even more so with our one party state, we have to remember what we are fighting for: our right to serve Gd and speak our truth peacefully. We have to strengthen our connection with Gd: "You cannot remain static in this torrent river just by standing firm in your place – you must actively swim against the flow. You may not be successful in swimming upstream, but at least you will not be swept down by the flow. So it is with spiritual life and the purity of spirit that you have attained. You cannot retain them against the flow unless you continue to struggle for spiritual growth. You must swim upstream without respite – upward, onward against the flow. There may be a limit to how far you can go, but at least you will not be drawn down with the flow." it's not about politics, it's about the spirit. Life is frustrating, painful, suffering inevitable, but what matters most is our faith, families, and communities. Our freedoms are Gd given, no entity can take it from us unless we give it to them.

Very Misguided
I know the rabbi means welll, but coming back to G-d is not possible for the country as a whole. Why should the Left return to the ideas of the Founders when they scream that they were all racists? When the Left removes the Decalogue from public spaces, that is from OUR Torah. In the Torah, even our enemies feared our G-d. The Left does not care and will not come back. What shakes me most is that most of my fellow American Jews support the very monster that will eat them.

The revolt wasn’t in DC
With all due respect: from Occupy movement to the riots, the revolution has been in the states for over a decade. The Right (and white men) has been steadily losing power, state by state, for decades. This is the first partly organized reaction. And it had no chance of being “successful” because it was a reaction and a death throe. To equate it as somehow the same as the godless Left is to do what the Left has learned to expect from the right: to win in every way they are able, as quickly as possible.

I'm Christian, but, I study different perspectives.
Thank you Rabbi Blech, for taking an interest in our U.S. problems, and helping seek a solution. (I know our problems show up world-wide. Solutions can work elsewhere, too.)

Love aish.com but...
“Saving America” by Rabbi Benjamin Blech is just a continuing of the theme that ignores the months of riots, arson, and looting by democrats. BLM with Antifa are Jew haters and the DNC is not far behind. Capital building protesters were wrong but where was this disgust for murderous BLM and co. ?
Alan S., January 12, 2021 2:28 PM
Your comment is like trying to compare apples to cars...
Of course, I do not speak for Rabbi Blech.
Strangely I did not fear for the people that worked at the Capitol nor for the magnificent property at the Capitol during the spring and summer BLM marches at the Capitol. I and all sane people strongly condemn all acts of BLM vandalism, rioting, and arson wherever it occurred in the country.
This said, I was in much greater fear for the lives of the people that work at the Capitol and the magnificent property that in fact the MAGA supporters defaced and ruined, having no similar concerns for the BLM marches.
I understand why many of the commenters on this site are bringing up the BLM marches. I do not support any movement anywhere that aligns itself with the BDS or the self-made Palestinian issues. However, I understand some but not all of the BLM concerns. But the BLM marches in no way can be compared to fantasies and insanities of the MAGA idiots.

Consider DEMOCRACY Prophecy of Canadian Singer Leonard Cohen?
I wonder if Rabbi Blech knows about the DEMOCRACY song of Leonard Cohen.
(Leonard Cohen was a Jew, though not so religious)
Here are some telling words of DEMOCRACY, written, back in 1992:
"Democracy is coming to the USA....
It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst...?
My own sense is that America had to attack democracy, so that the discomfort
became so great, that we become ready to rebuild and strengthen democracy.
=============================================================
Leonard Cohen's "Democracy" song made me think optimistically of a new
democracy wave, with Democrats and Republicans working together.
Can we now wake up? Can we admit we have been wrong about politics?

I don't see the loony left or anti-Semitic BLM leading to greater democracy. Quite the contrary as the Democrats have bought into the idea that only the left can be correct and opponents can be fired, have their free speech curtailed, etc.

I know how my people felt during the Holocaust
As I look around the USA today, I know how my Jewish family must have felt during the years leading up to and including the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. Truth is no longer truth. Feelings and emotions reign in those with power to control everything around them. The voice of righteous Gentiles and Jews are silenced in media and public platforms. Unconditional hate rules unless one conforms to the left. Too many parallels between then and now. As Jewish people we must be twice as concerned for our safety and the safety of our families and children. We have seen this mob mentality before and it led to the murder of 6 million Jews and 20 million world-wide. The Constitution of the United States will only work if the people follow HaShem. Those in power are not following HaShem or Torah. I just don't know what we can do. Our own people--the liberal Jews, have joined the enemy of our people and our G-d. May Adonai come speedily and in our days to recuse us from what is surely coming. Ani Ma'amin!

Secular colleges & schools are to blame
Secular colleges & schools are to blame for the brainwashing of the youth.
Many parents, including some observant Jews and other righteous people of faith, send their children to secular universities because they somehow believe this is required for the child to succeed in their career.
These colleges/universities (as well as public high schools) brainwash the youth into becoming Atheists, rejecting Hashem, changing genders, and losing their identity. They join AntiFa & the Left. Most college professors are Left and preach Communism to the kids. Even mainstream colleges are forcing kids to attend required Leftist "multicultural rascism education" classes----for every student regardless of major.
It is dangerous to send kids to these colleges. Parents must be warned.
We also must work on Kiruv and bringing more liberal non-observant Jews home to Hashem.
Rachel, January 11, 2021 2:58 PM
Another sweeping generalization
I am aware of problems with some professors at some universities. However, the majority of students are going to get an education that would help them to work in their chosen fields. One of my children has a degree in marketing, and the other will be getting a degree in nursing. None of their classes have included political content, and both remain proud Zionists.
Ray, January 10, 2021 10:35 PM
Confused
Hi! I'm confused as to why you consider liberal Jews "the enemy." I've been raised in a frum, liberal home. I've been taught that Judaism is about respecting all people, fighting for justice, and making the world a better place, because it is G-d's world and G-d wants us to be kind to one another. Leftist spaces focus on these values by fighting to end racism, sexism, poverty etc. Are they perfect? Of course not, nothing is. But this movement is aiming to right old wrongs, and I believe that is something our forefathers would be proud of.

Senator L. Graham spoke to the point
Senator Graham, in a statement, said that while in the USA people should always be entitled to voice their opinion, violence is never tolerated. But the outcry about the violence at the capitol was a little too late. The response to violence should have started way before. If the government did not prosecute those who looted downtown Manhattan in the BLM riots, those who stormed the courthouse in Portland, Oregon, and those who destroyed downtown Seattle, then it gave a message to others that it's okay to be violent. So only decrying this episode is not balanced. The democrats have a convenient way of decrying whatever is convenient to their agenda. And their agenda deliberately leaves out anything spiritual. May I remind you of what the liberal NY Governor Cuomo said in a press conference - he attributed his "success" of controlling COVID in NYS to himself. He said - It wasn't G-d, it was me. So brazen, but so clear! On the other hand, Pres. Trump once commented in a speech related to COVID that we must realize that there is a Boss up there controlling matters. Let's be very clear - violence is obviously not acceptable, but the democrats are looking to wipe out religion from the USA to clear a path for their immoral, loose and unchecked lifestyles.
Bunny Shuch, January 11, 2021 5:39 AM
Well said - The violent events of the past couple of years have turned into a Greek tragedy.
To Anonymous, "Senator L. Graham spoke to the point" : Thank you for saying what has been on my mind. Very well put. Any nation that turns a blind eye to violence from one end of the political spectrum will normalize it for everyone. This is not healthy for our country. One reason this country has attracted so many immigrants is because of our basic freedoms,. They are now being eroded, partly due to the violence that has been going on, virtually unimpeded, for for the past two years (plus that of January 6) and also to "political correctness." This has become like a Greek tragedy.
Anonymous, January 11, 2021 6:21 PM
You would have to dig deeply in the media to find Senator Graham's comments
I appreciate your agreeing with my sentiments. Uncovering truth in these times seems to be a rarity. The media is forcefully working against that, and that is why Senator Graham's comments are not highlighted; quite the contrary, deeply buried. I saw the video, but, unfortunately, the media and social media continue to manipulate (read: brainwash) public opinion, and they don't want the truth highlighted. Same reason all of President Trump's extraordinary accomplishments in just 4 years are barely mentioned. It is said that prior to the arrival of Mashiach, the world will be full of "sheker" falsehood, and "chutzpah." So let's think positive - Mashiach's arrival must be imminent!

Very Good Point
Very good point re: Senator Graham's comments, also Gov. Cuomo's.
Cuomo's behavior against the frum in NY is abhorrent and displays pharonic arrogance.. He and DeBlasio are vile Jew haters and used this Covid epidemic as a cudgel. I'm not frum, but am frustrated and angered by some of the Jewish 'leadership' that ignored this.

Reality
I think the problem is that the Radical Left is against God, against the values of America, and wants a one party system based on the Chinese Communist Party. Of course, we should try to work it out but it may come to a point when we need to face reality. Mabe Hashem is pushing us to leave the USA and make aliyah. It's time to go home!
(14) Joel Kutner, January 10, 2021 3:41 PM
religious belief is not a value of the left
Rabbi Blech is correct in calling for the voices of religious leaders to be heard. Unfortunately, religious belief and commitment to its moral teachings are not a leftist value. Hence, America is growing more and more away from religious practice, the family as a building block of society is eroded and being replaced by the absurdities of political correctness and "wokeness". Woe unto America.

It starts with the individual
I don’t mean to sound simplistic because this problem Is anything but. However, we can either take positive or negative actions. We can either speak words of lashan hará or words of praise. We can either use derogatory names for Democrats and Republicans, or we can simply agree to disagree.

How do you suppose we get one of the parties back to God? For clearly, one of them has.
It's the democrats who've moved away from God. Their left wing agenda that leaves no place for basic values is what threatens the future of America. Shouldn't we call a spare a spade? Very nice to talk in general terms but it's time you called out the party whose last the vision of America.

We can't see behind the "divine" curtains
But we may think.
Wealth is a big blessing as long as we see it in proportion.
Maybe this had to be used better? Maybe it should not have become the major purpose of life? Even if I think that the USA is far better than Europe in which far more "egocentric', hardly helping the rest of the world.
At least the USA has done a lot for the rest of the world.........may the Almighty remember the USA for this at least and bring peace.

We need to rely on G-d
Thank you so much for articulating what America needs right now. There is so much turmoil and hatred and not any gifted leaders in sight (at least that I can tell). This is an opportunity to recognize and live the principle of "Ein Od Milvado." There is no one to rely on but the Almighty. Only He can save us from this huge mess we find ourselves in.
