Relationship between anti-Semitism and Zionism

Do any of these studies examine the relationship between anti-Semitism and Zionism? Do they ask if respondents make a distinction between Judaism and Zionism, or whether anti-Semites base their feelings on their feelings about Zionism? I saw in one recent study that one of the lowest rates of anti-Semitism in the middle east is in Iran, where the Jews there are relatively well treated, unless they're suspected of being Zionist spies.

The percentage is higher.

We may know it in our hearts but, as the Rabbi says, it's always a shock to hear it again. My entire life has been composed of such shocks: Hearing how deeply we are hated. I believe that the figure is much higher than 0.25% of the world. I have a wise cousin who knows how upset I become at each "shock", and he tells me: "Just accept that almost the whole world hates us, and get on with your life." OK. But I do not agree with Rabbi Salomon's reasons for such hatred. I see it as much simpler. During Greek civilization we were regarded as "other" because we believed in one God, and so Greeks hated and persecuted the "other." Christianity is where it became worse. The Gospels were deliberately anti-Semitic so as to woo the Romans into Christianity, and the Romans saw Judaism as an illegal religion in their Empire. Which, of course, is one of the reasons they crucified Jesus and thousands of other Jews. So the Gospels incited hatred against Jews, and the Catholic Church took up this hatred with relish, inventing blood libels and dreadful lies, including "The Jews killed Jesus." This has been perpetuated through the generations for two thousand or more years. As young Poles freely say, "We learnt it from our elders." As Rabbi Yaakov says, many who deeply hate us have never even seen or met a Jew. I have worked with many non-Jews and listened with amazement to their jokes about us; jokes so off the mark that I have been reduced to real rage. Now of course radical Islam has taken up this hatred - which is detailed in the Qur'an and Hadith - just as deeply as when Jews had to live and die under Islamic rule hundreds of years ago. And most Islamists, as Ayaan Hirsi Ali writes, have never met a Jew. The world seems to need a scapegoat, and we - though our numbers are so tiny - are it. The blame lies fairly and squarely at the feet of the Catholic Church.

It is sadly true

I grew up in a catholic Belgium. More and more people know I am pro Israel, even more… I love Israel with my body and soul. I get responses like : "why don't you go to live in the settlements…" or "here we all walk to Compostella but you may walk to Nice…" Each time I can't believe my ears and stand perplexed ! Thank you The spirit of your work keeps me human and connected with G-D.

What about "Halocho b'Yodua sheEisov Sonei L'Yaakov", that Gentiles hate Jews?

Look through the other end of the telescoope - occasionally !

As Chavi wrote: if 1/4 are anti; at least 3/4s are pro or indifferent about our religious peculiarities! Hooray!
As for the 53 000... most polls are done on a sample of a 1000 as one does not need to eat all the plate of soup to know how it tastes. A teaspoon suffices for the taste.

do not believe this report. it's close to 99%

(2) Chavi, May 18, 2014 2:12 PM

I am amazed that 75% of the world's population is NOT antisemitic!

(1) ross, May 18, 2014 1:21 PM

1/4? That's it?

Not sure how 53,000 is representative of 7 billion, but we know it's much more. I would think that 70 years later, at least 70% don't know (care?) much about the holocaust or believe it was just 'something sort of bad that happened, pass the salt".
