Choices.
We are only free if we can make choices. Thank you Rabbi. Wonderful advice.

Degrees of Freedom
In physics there is a concept called "degrees of freedom" (DOF). Basically, this is the number of different "options" (states) open to a system. For example, if we a talking about a marble, it may be the number of directions in which the marble can move. If the marble is confined to a groove and can only move back and forth, it has 2 DOFs. If it lies on table and can move in a plane, DOF = 4, and so on.
We can make an analogy and say that the greater the number of options available to any person, the freer that person is. In our democratic societies, people have very many choices. Unlike the marble, we also have the ability to choose consciously.
