Shalom Children
Shalom Yeladim (children)
Shalom Yeladim B'ruchim Haba'im
A happy Chanukah to everyone
Hello children B'ruchim Haba'im
Let's sing together, we'll have lots of fun.
Chanukah is here "Hurray"
Chanu – they rested on "Chaf Hey"
Menorahs shining, latkes (dumplings) frying
Dreidels spin away.
Come children let's sing about the nissim (miracles)
That happened in Eretz Yisroel
Come Yeladim let's sing about the nissim
So wonderful a story we'll retell.
We'll sing about a jug so small
For eight days we lit its oil
How did it last time and again
Thank You God, Thank You Hashem.
It happened in the days of the Maccabees
Mattisyahu and his sons
Shimon, Yehuda Hamacabi
Elazar, Yochanon and Yonason.
Around my Daddy we all stand
He holds the candle in his hand
And says the blessing loud and clear
With a joy, we all can hear.
Around my Daddy we all stand
He holds the candle in his hand
And says the blessing loud and clear
Eight nights every year.
From far Yevanim came, they came with so much might
With elephants that were trained to fight
The Greeks, Yevanim came, they came with so much might
With great big elephants, oh what a fright.
Round and round our Dreidels spin
Who can guess who will win
On which letter will it fall
Nun, Gimmel, Heh or Shin.
We'll sing of how we light
And at which time of the night
And the blessings we're supposed to say.
We'll sing of how we light
From the left and not the right
And that we say the Hallel every day.
In the night our candles glow
They shine for everyone to know
That a ness (miracle) so very great Happened long ago.
In the night our candles glow
They shine for everyone to know
God still watches over us
Just like years ago.

Fire is Hot
"RRRING"
Hello. Fire Chief Bauer speaking.
Hello. You know it's almost Chanukah, and soon we'll be lighting our candles! I thought it was a good time to tell the children about the dangers of fire. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Well, Rabbi Alter, I'm so glad you called! First of all, please tell the children to be extra careful how they light the candles. And most of all, they shouldn't even go near any fire without adult supervision!
Thank you, Fire Chief, and keep up the good work.
Thanks for calling, and have a nice holiday.
Chorus I:
Aish is fire and fire is hot
Don't go near a fire, please do not
Aish, keep away!! Aish is hot
Will you play with fire? I will not!
Fire can run and fire can spread
It can jump to the curtains
It can jump to the bed
It can catch your clothes
And before you know
You could get a bad burn
Yes, we all have to learn that...
Chorus II:
Aish is fire and fire is hot
No matter where, no matter what
Aish, keep away!! Aish is hot
Do we play with fire? We do not!
There's soup in a pot on the stove and it's hot
I hope it's in the back, that's a much better spot
Hot tea on the ledge, little baby in the house
We have to be careful, we've gotta look out!!
Chorus III:
Aish is fire and fire is hot
Don't go near a fire, please do not
Aish, keep away!! Aish is hot
Will you play with fire? I will not.
Shabbos candles, Chanukah lights
Or a big bonfire on Lag B'Omer night
And we sing and we dance, lots of fun, real great
But fire is not, don't make a mistake!
Chorus IV:
Aish is fire and fire is hot
No matter where, no matter what
Aish, keep away! Aish is hot
Do we play with fire? We do not.
If you burn yourself, poor little one
It'll hurt and you'll cry, now that's not fun
So children please let's do what's right
Stay away from fire every day, every night.
Chorus V:
Aish is fire and fire is hot
Don't go near a fire, please do not
Aish, keep away!! Aish is hot
Will you play with fire? We do not.
Chorus II

Halachos Song
It's Chanukah at last
So children let's ask
Some questions on this most important time of year.
You don't have to raise your hand
You won't disturb the band
Just call out the answers so everyone can hear.
When do we light? Can anybody say?
When the sun sets and signals the end of the day.
When do others light? Come, let me hear you say
When the stars do appear in their beautiful array.
What do we light? Who can answer that?
Wicks in olive oil or candles made of wax.
Where do we light? Who can say for sure?
Some light by the window, some light by the door.
And in Eretz Yisroel many people light outside
Where the lights are seen by the people passing by.
And how many candles are we supposed to light
We start with one and add another candle every night.
Each time, which is the first candle that we light?
We start with the candle that we added on tonight.
By the Menorah's eight lights may I write with my pen?
No! Ein Lanu Reshus Lehishtameish Bahem
By the light may I write, please tell me once again
V'ein Lanu Reshus – we do not use them!
The reason that we light these candles you know
Is to remember the miracles that happened long ago
And when we remember what do we do then?
We thank and we praise the name of Hashem.
And the name of the flame
With which we light all the rest
Is the Shamesh that we place above
Or to the right or left.
And what brochos (blessings) do we say?
Let's hear it, children
Lehadlik Ner and She'oso Nissim.
And on the first night
In addition to these two
We make another brocho, Shehecheyanu.
How much time must they be lit
Let me hear you loud and strong
After the stars appear for
At least a half an hour long.
Two times a year we say a special tefilla (prayer)
Al Hanissim!! On Purim ! And also Chanukah
On Chanukah we say Al Hanissim every day
When we bentch and when we daven Shemono Esrei.
Well, we sang Yeladim (children)
The Chanukah Dinim (laws)
You told me all the answers
Indeed you're chachomim (wise men).
Yes, we sang, chaverim (friends)
The Chanukah Dinim
You're on your way to be
Talmidei chachomim (wise men).

In the Temple
Hi everyone and welcome.
Well, Chanukah is finally here. Let's begin by closing our eyes and imagining that we are living in the time of the Temple. Wow! Here it is. What a beautiful building. Gold and silver and precious jewels are all around.
And children, still with our eyes closed tightly, we see the kohanim – the priests – in their special clothing, doing their holy tasks with so much love and care. A kohein is lighting the golden beautiful Menorah – candelabra. The wicks are glowing in their cups filled with pure olive oil. How beautiful it was. If only we could once again see this magnificent sight.
One time when the Temple was standing, do you know what happened, children?
Come, let's slowly open our eyes and talk about it softly...
The Beis Hamikdash
In the Beis Hamikdash long ago
The beautiful Menorah lights would glow
With olive oil they burned throughout the night
To show to all the Torah way of life.
Then once the wicked Yevanim came
They broke through walls, they put out the flame
And when the Kohanim (priests) finally returned
They found no real pure oil left to burn.
Just then someone cried out "I found a flask!"
For one whole night this little jug will last
Then came a miracle, oh so great
Instead of just one night, it lasted eight.
Just then someone cried out "I found a flask!"
For one whole night this little jug will last
Then came a ness (miracle) so great
We light the candles, come let's celebrate.

Chanuka Party Medley
Chanukah, Oh Chanukah, come light the Menorah
Let's have a party, we'll all dance the hora
Gather round the table, we'll all have a treat
Sivivon to play with, and latkes to eat.
And while we are playing
The candles are burning bright
One for each night, they shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago.
One for each night, they shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago.
Maoz Tzur
Maoz tzur yeshua-si
Lecha na-eh li-sha-beyach
Tikone bais ti-fee-lasi
Vi-sham todah ni-za-beyach.
Li-ase ta-chin mat-beyach

Az eg-more vi-sheer meez-mor
Chanukas ha-meez-beyach
Az eg-more vi-sheer meez-mor
Chanukas ha-meez-beyach.
(Translation)
O Rock of my salvation, with delight we praise You.
Restore the Temple where we will bring offerings.
When You will eliminate our enemies,
Then I shall sing at the rededication.
I have a Little Dreidel
I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play!
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play!
It has a lovely body
With legs so short and thin
And when my dreidel's tired
It drops and then I win!
(Chorus)
My dreidel's always playful
It loves to dance and spin
A happy game of dreidel
Come play now, let's begin!
(Chorus)
Sivivon, Sov Sov Sov
Sivivon, sov, sov, sov
Chanukah, hu chag tov
Chanukah, hu chag tov Sivivon, sov, sov, sov!
Chag simcha hu la-am
Nes gadol haya sham
Nes gadol haya sham
Chag simcha hu la-am.
(Translation)
Dreidel, spin, spin, spin.
Chanukah is a great holiday.
It is a celebration for our nation.
A great miracle happened there.
Chanukah, Chanukah
Chanukah, Chanukah
Chag yafeh kol kach
Ohr chaviv, mi-saviv
Gil li-yeled rach.
Chanukah, Chanukah
Sivivon, sov, sov
Sov, sov, sov! Sov, sov, sov!
Ma nayim vi-tov.
(Translation)
Chanukah is a great holiday.
Surrounded with lovely light.
Fun for little children.
Dreidel, spin, spin, spin.
How wonderful!

Hebrew lyrics for Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah?
I can't seem to find Hebrew lyrics for Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah. When I was a little girl my mom played it for me from a recording of the Israeli Children's choir. I remember distinctly it was Hebrew because the they said "Shalom olaynu" in it ... does anyone have this version? Thanks!

I work in a secular special education school. It was a pleasure not only finding the lyrics, but also sharing the melody with the music teacher
It was a pleasure finding basic hanukah songs with the lyrics and music. Working in a secular special education environment exposed the population to another heritage.

Everything Jewish
I love your site and the e-mails I get from you. My family history may have a Jewish lineage, but because it was so far back, I am not considered Jewish. I myself love the people and culture and your site is a great blessing when I want to know something, thank you and G-Bless

new media to revive old style chanukah
So nice to find chanukah songs in a "nowdays" media. Internet, being in the web, is so important to my children, and we got connected for hours singing together as my parents used to sing with us. Did their parents and grandparents sing the same way? This is what makes traddition. We can't talk too much now. We are in a hurry. We are going to make our home candles and it means a lot of work and a lot of family time together. Thanks is a wonderful word, isn't it?
