Thank you to sin and masochism

To say "thank your" for sins committed against you is to be a masochist. Imagine saying thank you to Hitler. People who suffer horrible injustices as a child such as physical, mental or sexual abuse or grow up seeing their mothers beat up by their fathers are PRECISELY the people that later become child abusers and wife beaters.

Foundering in the grip of profound betrayal, you offered new perspective and new hope. This wisdom recalibrated my mind, my heart, my life.

Forgiveness Sucks!

I don't buy the idea of forgiveness. I believe it's a faulty concept and goes against the grain of human nature as it exists in the real world. Also, it is more of a Christian emphasized ideal concept than a Jewish one.

Forgiveness can be the hardest thing to do.

It wasn’t easy to forgive the person, but I did it

I was very upset at someone, and I even asked advice from two people I am close with who tried to help me let go of the pain.
I looked at this video and the other Aish hatorah video about trying to forgive, and I had to watch both of them a few times before I could internalize their messages.
B’H, I was able to forgive the person.
Thank you for your wonderful articles and videos.

Rejoice in Forgiveness

Very impressed with this video and the depth of thought as well all literal connections. Great presentation.

Transfering Forgiveness

One should let go of the pain. But forgiveness cannot be fully transmitted to those who do not seek it (and have therefore not asked for it).

I enjoyed this video; I still don't understand how I am to forgive my son's murderer.

To commenter #10 Linda Sherman

I am so very sorry that your child was murdered. IMO certain acts cannot be forgiven.

Forgiving the Murdere

I can not begin to fathom your loss, Linda. I heard a class just yesterday, where it was explained that according to Jewish Law (specifically the Rema, as amplified by the Mishna Brurah), one is not required to forgive someone who has so catastrophically ruined your life or reputation. While it it may be praiseworthy to do so, such lengths are not necessarily within our ability to reach.

Kindred spirit

Forgiveness is for us, not for others. Forgiveness frees our souls for their purpose... a purpose that cannot be fully realized while weighted down with guilt, revenge, pain.

After 45 years, my daughter’s murder is not avenged yet I know she is not in that grave. All that she was could not be destroyed. The souls of our children are eternal, even though in a form we cannot see. It is my hope you can free yourself from this burden and allow your soul to thrive. Nurture peace, my friend.

Great Learning

Thank you for making the video and helping to educate us. The video on forgiveness explains why I have been stuck and unable to move on. With this new understanding, I will do my best to forgive and move on. I'd like some joy and peace back in my life. Shalom

i love hebrew! and you did great in delivering it and your reasoning, thanks so much!

This article seems to deal with cursory instances where forgiveness maybe easy and we're both participants are willing to work through the issue. I'm more interested in how one forgives when the person they're trying to forgive is not willing to discuss their actions or what prompted them. It is one thing thing to accept that you can't force the communication and maybe that person's role in your life has changed or ended but it is another to forgive.

Could have brought out that the definition of the word "kapara" is to wipe clean! See Rashi Chullin 8b ד"ה למבפריה.
