it's not about the nail- the imposibility of opposite-sex relationships

I think this was written by a frustrated male who's at his wits end. come on, ladies, let's have compassion for the men and at least give lip service to trying their suggestion. They do not owe us!

Comedy's only funny with a thread of truth

Hey, friends: I'm not convinced this was intended as comedy AT ALL.

Indeed, I find the disconnect rather tragic. Mars-Venus? Male-Female? Standup comic's routine? Whatever the stereotyped reasons behind this dialogue, the truth is that sometimes people just need to feel heard and understood, regardless of gender.

Where empathy isn't enough and heroic rescue is too much, things risk reaching a middle ground called... nothing. Nothing there. Nobody home. That's a far worse place than being able to laugh at our foibles. It's the risk of pointing out the nail, even when your partner (I hesitate to specify 'she' here) is begging for relief.

So while I'm reminded about the light bulb and the psychiatrist ("sorry, but the light bulb has to want to change itself"), I'm also aware that in small doses, it's nice to have a comical reminder like this video that "men want to solutionize and women want empathy."

I hope the video makes other people laugh, see themselves, ponder the situation, and take positive steps toward improving relationships with those they love. In my case, though, the video simply made me squirm. "Keep your headache if you want, but stop trying to kiss me with that nail hanging out - ouch - I didn't sign up for that."

I know this is supposed to be funny and enlightening, but

Things wrong with this clip:
1. Woman is stupid, unaware, and in denial.
2. Man has total objectivity, clear vision, and ultimate common sense.
3. Both above-mentioned points are made out to be established truths about gender differences.
4. Trivialises woman's need to be heard - it serves no real purpose in this story.
5. Establishes that women are therefore unreasonable, illogical, and basically ridiculous.

Mike, April 22, 2016 8:27 AM

so every women has a nail stuck in her head??

I would agree with you IF every women had a nail stuck in her head.
Also the women in the video is not stupid or unreasonable in general, just concerning the nail, and regarding this the man in the video at least seems to have a point.

Regarding generalizations, normally it's not that extreme, but a in comment #10, women do have a tendency to want to share problems with their husbands, not really because they are looking for a solution or to change something, but because they want sympathy or understanding.

However there is a human(!) tendency to avoid dealing with real problems and to find 'strawmen' and things to complain about or to blame certain things that have nothing to do with what they are actually upset about.

You know both men and women can be ridiculous, it doesn't have to do with being a man or a women. However the reverse can also not be said: Someone is not ridiculous BECAUSE he is a man or she is a women. I hope you can agree.

Isn't it reasonable to deal with a problem, rather than to say 'you can't blame me'?

Nail in the head ...

What has this to do with the fact, that woman are different???
I know by lifelone experience, that men can have also a Nail in their head. They would talk in a different way in order to tell rthe other one, that "this nail" is not the reason- And they would not say: "Just listen". How can one think, that stupidity is a sign of being a woman!?
