The Sgnificance of Land of any Kind

All land is a vital component of living, working and residing. A nation who has land naturally will take care of it and by the population make that land more useful. The writings of the US economist Henry George puts special emphasis on the economic importance and value of the land and in order to make its fertility and productivity more uniform he proposes to introduce a single tax on land values. This is a development of how the land of Canaan was distributed between the tribes and families when the Hebrews returned from Egypt.

A Little Bit More

Actually, it does make a difference anywhere, for one people might work hard and nurture the land and thus increase its fertility, while other people might do minimum work and let the land run down and thus decrease its fertility. That said, the connection between Jews and Israel does indeed go beyond the "practical" difference described above.
