I'm angry.
You see, as most Americans were waking up this morning, and those in Europe and elsewhere around the world were going about their daily routines, here in Israel – over one million people were running for cover from a hail of rockets being rained down by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. In the space of 24 hours, since Tuesday evening, 80 rockets have been fired on southern Israel. That's more than three rockets per hour. By the time I finish this article, odds are that count will have risen to 85 rockets.
Just to put things in context: one million Israelis is roughly 13 per cent of the population. Thirteen per cent of the U.S. population equates to about 40 million people.
A dozen Israelis have already been injured, with several of them seriously. The only reason more have not been hurt is because Israel has invested millions of dollars in bomb shelters and the Iron Dome defense system, while Hamas has invested millions of dollars in foreign aid in more rockets.
But here is why I'm angry.
I'm angry that in 2012, over 600 rockets have already been fired from Gaza with no end in sight. I'm angry that the world only notices when Israel undertakes its (sovereign) right to defend its citizens. Can you imagine if even one rocket was fired on Washington, London, Paris or Moscow? No nation on earth can, or should, tolerate such attacks on its people.
I'm angry that while the United Nations never hesitates to call a 'special emergency session' on the 'Question of Palestine' or pass the umpteenth resolution blindly condemning Israel, that I am still waiting for a session on the 'Question of Israel' and Palestinian terror. In fact, 24 hours after the rocket attacks started, I am still waiting for even one syllable of condemnation from the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly or Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
I'm angry that Ban Ki-Moon, the UN Secretary-General, could not find a moment to condemn the Palestinian rockets, but did find time to laugh and dance with South Korean rapper Psy from the popular dance craze Gangnam Style.
I'm angry that while the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton slammed Israel last week over the building of several hundred apartments (in an area that will arguably remain part of Israel anyway), that I am still waiting for her to slam the Palestinians for firing 80 rockets in one day.
I'm angry that there are those who continue to call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against the Jewish State, but are silent in the face of Palestinian terror.
I'm angry that ships and flotillas continue to set sail for Gaza to show 'solidarity' with the Palestinians, but where is their solidarity with the people of southern Israel?
I'm angry that while human rights organizations like Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam and others do not waste a single opportunity to condemn Israel for human rights violations against the Palestinians, the human rights of Israelis are seemingly not important enough for them. Is Jewish blood really that cheap?
I'm angry that mainstream newspapers like the New York Times, lead their stories about the rocket attacks with such headlines as "Four Palestinian Militants Killed in Israeli Airstrikes," and not "Palestinian Terrorists Rain Down Over 80 Rockets against one million Israelis."
I'm angry that so many people are blind to the fact that Iran, which has called for Israel to be wiped off the map and now seeks to obtain nuclear weapons, is the primary funder and supplier of arms to Hamas. I'm angry at the fact that all civilians in southern Israel today were instructed not to send their kids to school and stay in bomb shelters. What sort of inhumane way is that for children to live?
I'm angry when people continue to say that 'settlements' are the main impediment to peace, and not Hamas, a terrorist group which does not recognize Israel's right to exist and seeks its destruction. I'm angry when I see pictures like this, of a home in southern Israel hit by a rocket from Gaza today, yet have the audacity to say "ah, but they're just like toys; what damage can they do?"
I'm angry that there is someone out there who does not know me and has never met me, yet still wants to kill me – for no other reason than being Israeli.
I'm angry when I hear residents in southern Israel say "we just lie on top of our children and try to protect them with our bodies" or that "we're living on borrowed time" – yet the world seems oblivious to their desperate cries for help.
No, I am not angry. I am outraged.

Gaza's barbaric acts against Israel
You have every right to be outraged at Gaza for it's savagery and the world for it's betrayal of Israel
(56) Anita, August 9, 2018 5:52 PM
Horrible!
I am an American Christian and Yes! I am very upset about what they are doing to Israel and attacking you! I see the children running and screaming and it is horrible! The Muslims won't leave you alone. I'm praying for you! And emailing my President, and Congressperson . God protect you and strengthen you and comfort you!

I am very angry also
I am very angry, and am ashamed of my country, which is the Uk
I am very angry with Obama
How many times have we heard, Never Again, in connection with the Holocaust Well hear we are doing what nothing, standing in front of a television camera ,and saying we do not accept what Hamas are doing. Do you honestly think that Hamas will take any notice of that. Will someone please tell me how Obama got the Nobel Peace Award, and he is funding Hamas, along with the Muslim brotherhood.
It is time that the World made it up to Israel for looking the other way, Britian who were looking after Israel at the time of the 2nd world war, turned a boat load of Jews away from Israel, I think there were about 8,000 who had managed to board a boat to what they thought safety.being sent back to deathcamps. We owe it to Israel, to back them at this time. I am so angry and ashamed of both my country, and the Church, I wrote to HM a couple of year back regarding the Churches attitude to the Jews, she said she could not concern herself, with the day to day running of the Church, as she was the govenor general, I recently wrote to HRH Prince of Wales.

cynical world
Biased media appears to be telling the world to Pamper Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Martyrs Brigade or Iran and denounce Israel. This is totally unacceptable. The world needs to choose between hate and love, between peace and war and between order and lawlessness. Embrace Hamas and its like and reap violent extremism. We have a choice and should have a choice.
(53) Tammy, July 10, 2014 3:16 PM
YES, I am outraged!
Thank you for concisely stating what is wrong with this picture. I'm 100% with you, not just angry but OUTRAGED! Israel is MY country too, and justice MUST be served by the world!

Outraged
I am absolutely outraged that our government, the United States of America, is willing to sit back and allow these atrocities to continue. Shame on President Obama!

(49) Diane Peters, November 20, 2012 2:04 PM
Yes I care
I do care very much about the people in Israel. I can't sleep at night knowing how scared everyone must be and wondering if people have food and warm safe places to be. I can only imagine how traumatic it is wondering if you are going to survive the next attack and the next attack.

Completely outraged
What makes me truly mad is seeing biased news putting Israel as the bad one. Sure there are innocent people on both sides and that is why I pray this conflict ends soon with as little deaths as possible, however I am glad Israel is finally defending itself. May Hashem bless Israel and everyone in it.
(46) Janice, November 20, 2012 2:05 AM
I have had to defriend a couple of people from my Facebook...one who said Israel had no rigjht to exist. What an ignorant bigot! Have some Americans forgotten who their friends are? Have they forgotten 9/11? I pray for the peace of Jerusalem... May they prosper who love you!
Rami, November 20, 2012 1:40 PM
America's right to exist
You should have replied to those bigots that America has no right to exist as the country belongs to the Indians
jannet, November 20, 2012 1:53 PM
I totally agree I would delete anyone who believes that way . I find it hard to understand why people think Israel should not defend their own country . I fear for those to go against Israel . Because they are protected by God himself . They will never ever destroy Israel because they would have to destroy God first and that is never going to be possible . What fools they are

Was there a real chance for peace talks with Jabri, he had a peace deal in hand when Israeli gov killed him. His visit was instant martordom and israel fell for it. I'm an average citizen and even I can see that was not a smart move. Seriously, why not exhaust all chances of peace. Secondly, a response should be swift; yet mobilizing in the midst of civilians against 2 guaranteed enemies is going to be a blood bath for all sides. *Again* I watched nearly 200 rockets delivered to homes in Israel where children were until I had to change the channel, I read nearly the same amount of civilians alone in Palestine were killed by Army bombs. 3 years have past since that conflict and now The terrorists and the Israeli gov are going to do the same things *again*. My question is don't the people of Israel and Palestine see there are terrible misteps taking place on there behalf? Why don't the people of both sides join each other in solidarity because most civilians are dying on both sides.. this is why I'm angry. As far as I'm concerned the citizens can stop the violence if they stand together, anger is not enough. Its going to take love of a neighbor.
(44) Pamela Shipman, November 16, 2012 2:37 AM
I'm so sorry for all you are going through. I myself am angry with how the UN acts but I am ashamed of the U.S. President. A lot of wish he were not the president. His actions toward the Israeli people is an embarrasement to those of us who love Israel and it's people. I keep you all in my prayers. Stay safe and know there are a lot of us getting the news out on the attacks on your people. God Bless.

rocket attacks in Israel
We are bloody outraged too. Outraged at the way Western Governments ignore the daily rocket bombardments on Israel - yet the death of one Hamas chief garners headlines in the media. We are more than outraged at the treatment of Israel by the West- and the West's failure to act on Israel's behalf in these matters. Be'ahavat Yisrael, shalom.,

But Who Is In The Army
I don't know anyone in the Army. Isreal should make it clear that it does not want our soldiers only are weapons.
(40) Tikvah, November 1, 2012 12:41 PM
I am disgusted to live in the US..
As a Jew in America I am constantly watching Isreal and speaking with people there. Isreal use to be our closest ally and now Obama has caused this nation to turn its back on G-d, His people, and His Land. I know this is in His hands and we are praying constantly...Jews and Christians...for Isreal and G-d's people. But it is time for us to rise up and be bold. We don't have bomb shelters here...we don't have to live wondering will today be peaceful or will we be attacked. If one missle were to be shot into the US all hell would break loose. I feel so deeply for my people who are having to live in such a state..this should not be happening. But G-d's wrath is coming and He says I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All nations against Isreal are going to fall and G-d will reign. Please know you are not alone we are listening and taking a stand. Your article is SOOO powerful it brought me to my knees. Shalom

I am sad.
I am In my mid-40's, live in the USA and Jewish. I have always wondered why our government and those of other countries have NOT helped Israel during these attacks. We have joined or started wars for much less. I am sad that I am not smart enough to really know what I can do to help Israel. I do pray for Israel. I know God has a love for Israel. I completely understand the anger and frustration because I have it too.

Couldn't have said it better!
This article by Arsen Orstrovsky has hit the nail on its head. It reminds me of how sometimes the world can turn such a blind eye to over 4,000 years of suffering and repression the Jews have endured. The fact of reality for myself is that I regret that I have only one life to give to my beloved Israel. Another fact of reality is that the people of Gaza have CHOOSE to be lead by the terrorist group Hamas. In my personally opinion, all efforts of diplomacy and economic war have failed to control the agression, war crimes, and killing of Innocent Israeli's by Hamas. For this, I believe the Nation of Israel should clear Gaza and secure it for the Israel.
(35) marisse corbett, October 30, 2012 7:26 PM
I to am mad and sickened bt the lies spread from the media about Isreal

God will never abandon His people
I am a born again Christian in love with Israel and her people. My heart is broken for the turmoil and misery her people endure day after day.And the world sits by idly amidst the destruction. I am ashamed that my country has chosen to align itself with the terrorists and plays politics with Israel's enemies..However, there are millions here like myself who love and support Israel and know that God will bless those who love Israel and curse those who curse her.We will never abandon Israel in our hearts.

rockets vs hurricne sandy
Yes, we do need a wakeup call, amd though there are no neviim today, perhaps that is why we are having hurricane Sandy. Perhaps that is why our schools are shut down , as well as our transit system, and we have to stay indoors. Time to put aside our plans and think, and be more sympathetic to our brothers i in Eretz Yisroel.
(32) Michael, October 30, 2012 5:58 AM
America's loyalty
following the news we can see the Americans have changed their minds towards Israel, leaders have chosen to be bullied into accepting the lies. the question is where are the genuine men of G-d?
(31) Anonymous, October 30, 2012 1:10 AM
I agree with you, Arsen, that the U.N., E.U., most media, many "human rights" organizations, and "activists" do not recognize Jews/Israelis as human beings. It makes me angry, too. Thank you for expressing what is real. I don't have any answers. I just want you to know you are not alone. HaShem is watching over us. I just pray for HaShem's mercy and lovingkindness on Israel.
(30) Gary Katz, October 29, 2012 7:04 PM
You are far from isolated
Arsen, don't be too discouraged. Millions around the world, not just we Jews, support you. I'm on the Chicago Advisory Board of "Stand With Us," and I see a lot of widespread love for Israel (For Chicagoland readers, on Dec. 1, "Stand With Us" will hold our first gala at Orloff Jaguar, in Chicago; go on our website, if you're interested in attending). G-d bless you and Israel!
(29) Pat LoGiudice, October 29, 2012 3:18 PM

Rocket attacks
Hi Yes it does worry me as we were in Israel in September 2012 and feell in love with Israel and it's people. Such a beautiful country and so precious and rich in the Bible We love Israel and the Jewish people and pray for your safety in Israel daily. Regards Peter Field
(27) Eremia Phiri, October 29, 2012 6:01 AM
Angry but not surprised.
It is not surprising to see the international community is silent on these attacks against Israel. That is why there will never peace between you and "PLO"because they know that their evil agenda will be supported. Remember some of these nations were persecutors of Jews in the past.
(26) Anonymous, October 29, 2012 4:56 AM
Am Yisroel Chai
Justice will come for Israel and when it does watch yourselves !!!!! The silence now is just like the silence during the Holocaust. The checks and balances will arrive. We have to awaken ourselves individually and for each other to remember we are here now but will eventually be in the next world.. Do better in your life klal Yisroel ! Wake up now! These events are meant for you to hear not by being complacent. We agreed to a contract to be Jewish or we get reminded of who we are, with the world not caring because we don't . time!
(25) Allan, October 29, 2012 2:57 AM
I am also outraged.
I am an Australian and am sick of our government’s attitude. They take every opportunity to join in the international condemnation of Israel but dare not make the slightest suggestion of a critical comment over the Muslim nations’ attacks on Israel or their wholesale destruction of Christian churches and murder of Christian citizens in their own countries. We just have to keep on pressuring our politicians to take notice of their electorate’s views. One day they must come to their senses – probably only when the economy degenerates so much that their own salaries are threatened!
(24) Christine, October 29, 2012 2:16 AM
I'm also Angry with the injustice you Israeli face daily {very sad}
Thanks for the truth of your article and couldn't agree more, truly my heart goes out to you Israeli. When my husband & I hear how the EU and organizations treat Israel, we boil inside. We wish Israel would not have given up the Gaza, and hope they won't give up another inch of their own land. Your land that the LORD gave to you Israeli is NOT to be given away. When we heard what Catherine Ashton said about Israeli building houses, who is anyone to tell you when and how many houses you can build. You could give up your entire land you couldn't please people that talk like that. We want to thank you what all the good you have given to the world, and I hope & pray you will be very vocal about it. The truth will win at the end, so please know their is people out across the ocean that care about you. Shalom
(23) sima, October 29, 2012 12:39 AM
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU
tHIS IS A TWISTED WORLD WITH ANTISEMITES SEEMING TO CALL THE SHOTS. AS A PROISRAEL ACTIVIST I CONDEMN UNITED NATIONS, AND EVERY ARAB AND OTHER COUTRY WHO SUPPORTS ROCKERTS INTO ISRAEL. ISRAEL ONLY DEFENDS ITSELF, AND I PRAY THAT WE WILL HAVE THE STRENGTH TO GO ON
(22) Anonymous, October 29, 2012 12:38 AM
Your anger is understandable
Your anger is understandable. Everyone should have the right to live without fear of rockets falling down on them. Good point about how the NY Times portrays situations.
(21) Bob, October 29, 2012 12:12 AM
Washington needs change
I appreciate your claims and challenges. The problem is that it seem many Jewish people I know are Democrats and they are support the re-election of Obama. Obama has given every indication he is pro-Muslim and hence he appears not to care what happens in Israel. Although from my perspective no matter who the president is we need to let other countries solve their own problem. We (US) are not the worlds policeman.
(20) leo napoli, October 28, 2012 11:20 PM

(19) colette, October 28, 2012 10:40 PM
You're not alone: I'm angry too and so do many......
...for the same reasons that you give! I feel bad that critics are systematically thrown against Israël, and never towards the constant attacks of the Palestinians. Today, it's unfortunate that it's "politically incorrect" to be for Israël.
(18) tsion, October 28, 2012 9:31 PM
Angry, Rocket attack
You are so right to be angry> I am angry too. I have large family in Israel and in the south. you can see Gaza from My brother house. My family is trying to live Normal life as mach as possible. It seems that the world do not care about Jewish suffering we have to take care of ourselves and be united against evile.
(17) Carole66, October 28, 2012 9:07 PM
Outrageous!
I think these attacks are shocking! Nothing in the UK mainstream media! People are so antisemitic here, which really saddens me. I know this is a spiritual thing as the evil one hates the jewish people and has always sought its demise, because they are the `Apple of God`s eye` God will avenge all those who come against His people!
(16) miriamwcohen, October 28, 2012 9:01 PM
support
Of course I care; just called my brother who at the age of 83 is in Israel visiting with his daughter and family in Beer Sheva, and was told that they had a siren warning, rocket attack at 5:30 am. What a disgrace that there is no way to end this. What a disgrace that the world ignores this. What a disgrace that Hamas in Gaza continues these attacks, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. And yet, Jews in Israel soldier on, continue to be productive. Shame on the rest of the world that ignores Israel's plight.
(15) Anonymous, October 28, 2012 8:46 PM
I care. Why? Because God cares.
The nation of Israel is God's chosen people. Woe to them that mess with God's chosen people. God is more powerful than the greatest arsenal of weapons of destruction. I do not want to be in the shoes of those who have claimed war on Israel because they must answer to the Father of the nation of Israel, God Almighty HImself. I care. Why? Because God cares.
(14) Reuven Frank, October 28, 2012 8:32 PM
I'm NOT angry
That's right, NOT. I live in Jerusaem. No, we've NEVER had to run to our bomb shelters. (Even in 1991, we were in sealed rooms; and, "never" above means since 1979, when I got here.) And, do you know why? or, Perhaps I should say, Why not? Because, it’s nothing new. It’s been going on for generations already. Somewhere along the line, Israel became Goliath, to the “poor Palestinian Davids.” What does complaining do? or, Ranting and raving? or, Waiting for Fox, or CNN, or the New York Times? It's a lost cause. We’re Jews. We pray. But, prayer to HaShem to save us, and NOT prayer that the /goyim/ will understand, or stop their disgraceful behavior. “Aysav hates Ya’akov.” It’s an explicit Gemorra. And, just like all explicit Talmudic statements, it will take the “final solution” of HaShem, when He will be one and His name will be One. Anything else is like shouting at deaf people. It may be self-satisfying, but it doesn’t do anything at all to the deaf.
(13) ruth housman, October 28, 2012 8:05 PM
I'm angry
I think there are many legitimate reasons to be angry and one is to be under constant attack from rockets, from the press, and from people who have no idea what's going on, not being on the inside, and trying always for political correctness which is inclusive of everyone involved, and it does seem at times, the pendulum swings to those who are "the bad guys". It's the neverending conflict and I often wonder, when it's time for this story to come full circle and for something different to happen, something that springs everyone out of the mess of hatred, blame, violence and continuous enmity. I know how it is to spend time in Israel, and to experience fear, and I know how hard it must be to say good-bye in the morning and never know whether it's the last good-bye. The situation seems to go on, without remedy, and those who claim they have the solution to Peace, well it's hard not to feel great cynicism after all this time. So we go to the WALL on all of this. Maybe the world should gather, peaceably in Jerusalem and pray together for something different. If not now, then, tell me, When?
(12) Grace, October 28, 2012 8:01 PM
Help! How do we get the attention of the U.N.???? Or how many more rockets before there is compassion???? What's wrong with the world??? God be mercyful to those who do not bless Israel!!!
(11) Elisheva, October 28, 2012 6:32 PM
Agree Harold
A closer look at the Israeli political leadership is in order. Far too much time pandering to Americans and not enough time cleaning up the disgraces in front of our eyes. When our government ministers say that the African refugees are spreading disease, refusing to condemn racist protests with medical masks, and send asylum seekers back into war zone, they show themselves as the disgrace they are.
(10) Anonymous, October 28, 2012 6:09 PM
Count your blessings, others have it far worse
At least Israel has Iron Dome, effective defense forces and the world's most powerful nation as an ally, however imperfect. Would you rather be in northern Mali or Nigeria, a Christian in Syria or Egypt, a Sufi Muslim in Pakistan or Afghanistan or any kind of Muslim in southern Russia, to take only a very short list of far more badly beset people and places. Would you prefer that Israel's existence hinge on support from China or Russia? No country and no people have it perfect. That's not the way Hashem created the world. Be as outraged as you wish about whatever reports and political figures you care to make your focus when it comes to Israel, but never forget that the world's Jewish population -- especially in Israel -- is living in the best circumstances we have enjoyed for more than two millenia -- spiritually as well as materially, militarily and politically. Giving thanks for our many blessings, and recognizing the extent of them, is at least as important to our spiritual well-being as shvitzing/sweating and tzitturing/fretting over the hypocrisies of people and nations we cannot control.
(9) Rachel Miner, October 28, 2012 5:58 PM
Israeli Rockets falling in the south
I am angry along with Arsen too. I live in Karmi'el and I read about all of the bombs falling in the Negev. I feel for those people. I am ready as all of us have been trained for bomb attacks and we have a bomb shelter in our building.
(8) Esther, October 28, 2012 5:27 PM
The world is blind indeed
The world is blindind itself when Jews are abused, but it will reach them sooner or later. The Moslem ideal is to destroy western culture anyway. My anger is towards the israeli government who cares about world opinion instead of cariing about its civilinas' welfare. Since they are blind, why care about what they say, why care about their falhood ? Build as many buildings as you want, retaliate intensively, go ahead & destroy our bitter enemies before they rise to destroy us!!!
(7) Keoagile, October 28, 2012 5:10 PM
The World Will Not Care
But Israel is indestructible! Where are those nations and individuals who made it their mission to exterminate the Jewish people. As Tehillim 129:1-2, 5: Many a time have they afflicted me from my ne'ur, may Yisroel now say; Many a time have they afflicted me from my ne'ur (youth); yet they have not prevailed against me. Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Tziyon [i.e, all anti-Semites].
(6) Francis, October 28, 2012 4:45 PM
I do care
I am an Israel-loving goy from Geneva Switzerland and I do care about the peace of Israel. I am going to spend some holidays in Israel soon. Supporting you! Shalom!
(5) richard, October 28, 2012 4:38 PM
We sshare your anger and frustration
I think there are two answers to the problem. Cognitive dissonance and anti semitism. The West has a certain notion of the way the world should be and the facts just won't get in the way. We were the same pre WW2 and our culture was much better then than it is today. If American Jews are so pathetic, what can we say about everyone else. It seems the war will have to come to the backyards of the West in a sustained way for us to get off our collective derrieres and do something. It gets me sick every time I reflect on these issues and besides writing letters, etc. I don't know what to do about it.
(4) michael swanger, October 28, 2012 4:24 PM
partition of palestine
I wish the allies after ww2 had done the right thing.Even after the European war England prevented many from fleeing and going to Israel by ship. I.M.O. the so called Palestians should have been placed in Jordan irregardless of what Jordan thought. Reparations should have been given those people (displaced Arabs) and then send them to Jordan. The jews should have been given money from the Marshall Plan to build their homeland, but it wasn't. Now we have a real mess.
(3) Timo Kolhonen, October 28, 2012 4:23 PM
I am also angry
because this kind of summary of so important news do not go to the worlds media . We individuals , people who loves israel have to raise our voices , Every one can do it
(2) Harold, October 28, 2012 3:02 PM
One more group to be angry at
I share your anger at all the groups you listed. But I'm also angry -- as you should be too -- at Israel's political leadership, for regarding a certain number of rockets falling on its citizens as an acceptable number. "Only" X number of missiles fell on Israelis today. Or today "too many" missiles fell, so we have to take some very limited military action And you've all been convinced (brainwashed?) into thinking that this is normal and you have to accept and tolerate those low numbers. If missiles fell on the civilian population of the United States you can be certain that our armed forces would stop them quickly, If missiles fell on San Diego or El Paso from Mexico, no number would be acceptable, and we would do whatever was required to stop the people doing it -- permanently. So direct at least a little of your outrage at your own government.

No, the world doesn't care
It's true - the world simply does not care about the Jews. How else can one explain the blatant double standard and disregard for Jewish life. Now we can understand how the world stood by and did nothing while the Holocaust happened 70 years ago.
