Because the Palestinians are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Jews stole their land. Therefore, the ends justify the means. Israel pandering to the Palestinians legitimizes their claim in their eyes and in the eyes of the world. Once we stand up and state unequivocally that the Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel and that we have stolen nothing from anyone, is their any chance for peace.

How to teach Jewish children
I would state it differently: teach children how to be guided by the Torah to distinguish between GOOD and EVIL, strengthen/love/respect GOOD and fight/hate/kill EVIL

Not the Problem
Most Jewish children are taught that, whether it's a full Torah education or a secular humanitarian one. The problem is it takes only one side to create war, but both sides for peace, or at least "détente" (cf. the US-USSR post-cold war status). With Palestinians teaching their children to honor murders and fill their lives with hatred, that's not likely to happen.
