Why Don’t You Support Israel?

Israel is one of the most free and most prosperous countries in the world, and the only democracy in the Middle East. So why is it so controversial to support the Jewish state?

Excellent video

I was unable to continue voting for the Harper government, given its dismally destructive environmental record and culturally genocidal treatment of Canada's First Nations, and thought that the dedication of a bird sanctuary in his honour was a serious faux pas (millions of birds dead and still dying in Alberta's Tar Sands and some other way of honouring him would have been preferable and less likely to have anti-Israel repercussions in Canada)); but I have always very much appreciated his stalwart and devoted support of Israel.

I agree to 120 %

I really liked this. I often argue with people about Yom Ha´azmaut and the State of Israel. Since we know that even among Jews plenty don´t celebrate Israel Independence Day. The reason why I do it (without Hallel and Holiday Prayer) is that we are free here and every Jew has the right to live and have a life here. I did speak about it here https://www.livingtorah.online/celebrate-yom-haazmaut/ just before Yom Ha´azmaut this year.

Stephen Harper - Prime Minister of Canada

Stephen Harper was the best prime minister of Canada ever!!! The citizens of Canada were foolish not to re-elect him.

Great Minds Think Alike

That is just what I said when this video was first posted, but for some reason my words did not appear here. I compared it to the British voting Winston Churchill out of office almost at the very moment that he had done more than anybody else to defeat the nazis.

To the victors..

This land is your land. This land is my land. I enjoy reading aish.com whenever I get a chance as a Christian from Illinois. For all the Americans who read this: If you own property in the United States, are you planning on deeding the land back to the natives? We have only been here 250 years max where has the Zuni, Lenape, Mohawk, Navaho, Pueblo, Chumash, Apache, Pueblo, Algonquin and on and on have been here for thousands. For those Americans who crave peace and request Israel to give back their land, why don't you do the same and give your property back? After all the Natives were forced off their land--quite violently--thus return back to Europe or Africa. They will be thrilled to have you back (sarcasm noted)

The Case for Israel

The case for Israel is even stronger than that, because Israel has always been Jewish land. The claim made that we Jews are illegally occupying our own land, it simply absurd.

Thank you, Prime Minister Harper

Your presentation is a breath of fresh air in a world that is ratcheting up its hatred for Israel and the Jewish people.
How I wish you were still prime minister of Canada!
GD Bless you, and thank you for speaking out, for speaking the truth.

Harper 2!

Yes, we miss Mr. Harper. If you're Canadian (maybe "Regina" is a clue?) please let's make sure our next Prime Minister is Andrew Scheer.

Great, but only talks anout the interior.

This is a beautiful video, but it doesn't address over the green line, and those concerns are why there exists the issues of the boycott, and lack of support the video seeks to address.

Over 10,000 people protested in a march in England over the weekend. It was distressing to watch, but it was very powerful and effective for their cause. Ahed Tamimi, the Palestinian girl in West Bank who was imprisoned last year has a very far reach, in terms of touching people - even people who support Israel.

I am sorry, but it is time to find a solution to a 50 year occupation, and increased settlements on disputed land.

The issues are not all anti-semitism. It helps no one to keep insisting they are and only adds to true anti-semitism, that continues to rise, especially with white supremacists and nationalists.

If the arabs had wanted a solution/"state", they would have had one decades ago. Their leaders, one after the other, aspire to destroy the Jews, plain and simple. Lay the responsibility where it belongs.

Anonymous, May 15, 2019 5:43 AM

Israel doesn't want 2 states, either.

You are kidding yourself to think, otherwise. The settlement expansion is wrong. Period.

Biblical Heartland

Opposing Jews living in the Biblical Heartland of Israel, which is what the so-called West Bank really is, is what is so very wrong, period. For any Jew to call for the most holy of Jewish land to practice apartheid against Jews is simply outrageous, displaying a total lack of both Torah knowledge as well as any pride in one's own Jewish people. It boggles the mind.

Anonymous, May 15, 2019 5:25 PM

I oppose it based on Torah

We are in exile and will return when Moshiach gathers us.

There sre ultra-zionist ultra-orthodox, and progresive Jews also, who do not support the Isrsali government's policies.

Nevertheless, don't.you.DARE.challenge my belief in HaShem or my practice as a Jew, over politics, no less. Aish readers need to learn respect for Jews with differing interpretations and to remember we were exiled because of the in-fighting that led to the Shechina fleeing.

Anonymous, May 17, 2019 3:26 AM

I Support It Based on Torah

The overwhelming majority of Orthodox Jews are very strong supporters of the Jewish State of Israel. Here in a free society like America, we have every right to challenge each other's beliefs, especially when the beliefs we are challenging are expressing Jewish self-hatred and a total lack of respect for those of us Jews who actually respect Triumphantly True Torah Tradition.

Well, we aren't going to agree on much. I am so thankful every day for the Jewish Day School I attended where the state of Israel was not a focus. The Shul I attend now, it is the same, no politics. I think Zionism replaced Judaism and for those of you where it became your identity you cannot tolerate even any criticism. And, Self - hating is just a term to control criticism of the state of Israel, and it says more about the one using the label.

The Israeli government overturned a conviction of Dareen Tatour for incitement for a poem she wrote, about resistance. They wisely recognized though it made people uncomfortable it was not incitement. Their decision surprised me because I never expected them to decide as they did, but it gave me hope.

I think Tlaib's words were taken out of context and twisted, and I do not think she is an anti-semite. I suspect the Democrats who remained silent, feel the same. And it takes courage given the hostility and aggression from the other side, especially Jews, who refuse to see white nationalism for the problem it is, even after Poway, even after Pittsburgh. You all scare me.

David, May 15, 2019 7:30 PM

It certainly addressed that issue

He certainly addressed that issue. Israel must "occupy" these areas due to security concerns. See what happened when Israel disengaged in Gaza, trying to solve the "50 year occupation". If the Arabs wanted to find peace with two states, they would have had it years ago.

Besides, these areas were only "occupied" due to the wars started by the Arabs. Any nation attacked in such a way, and victorious in war, would annex the land forever. It is only Israel's attempt to play as fair as possible that they haven't.

Additionally, I just want to make this clear, that the fact is, the "two states" were already created when the land was split up in 1947. The Arabs got one, the Jews, the other. All of this talk about their being there and entitled to a state of their own, is ignoring this fact.

StanleyT, May 16, 2019 1:46 PM

That's all very well, but how do you reach a solution with a people whose only solution is the eradication of yours? Israel has offered the Palestinians more than they ever asked for (Google: Erekat says Abbas offered more), and they've said no every time. Israel has tried unilateral withdrawal, with Gaza, and we all know how that turned out. There used to be an Israeli left that agreed with everything you say, but they no longer get elected. Maybe the Israeli people know something you don't know. And if there is some magic formula that you can recommend, please do do.

Thank You, Mr. Harper

Many thanks to Stephen Harper! May his words penetrate and disperse the cloud of delusion!

Amen to That

Amen to that!
