Masbia: Reinventing the Soup Kitchen

A restaurant without a cash register.

The phrase “soup kitchen” doesn’t exactly ooze dining in comfort. Getting meals to the homeless or hungry is usually a bare-bones affair, involving the most inexpensive food and all the ambiance of a basement cafeteria.

But walking into one of the three soup kitchens run by Masbia in NY feels different. It’s part of the quintessentially Jewish way to give tzedaka: preserve the person’s dignity. The food is fresh and tasty, it looks like a restaurant, and it is – one where nobody has to pick up the check themselves.

The dedication that Mr. Rapaport has is amazing! His name is not in neon lites nor is there a dinner in his honor, in fact it seems it's the opposite .....he gives the dinner!!
This is the definition of pure chessed & tzedaka.
Yasher Koach to him & his crew!

Isaiah 58 in action !!! God Bless you. Would love to start one in my city.

I love soup kitchens . It's very practical help for the needy. Thanks for the element of dignity of serving at a restaurant with no cash register!! Truly a God idea.
