A Broken Body Isn't a Broken Person

A former Olympian is forced to rethink the meaning of her life after a crippling accident ends her career.

Former Olympian Janine Shepherd recounts the challenge of facing a life where her dreams were no longer within reach. Instead of crumbling, she found new ones, realizing that her strength does not come from her body, it comes from her soul.

Seeking end of story

As a registered occupational therapist who worked in rehabilitation in California. I would really like to know the rest of Janine's recovery story. In all my years working on a spinal cord injury unit, I never saw or knew a patient, even with an incomplete injury, walk and move around like Janine did on the video!!! Please please share with us the stages and time line that led up to such an amazing and complete recovery for this special woman. Growing up with braces and crutches presented many challenges for me, and while I have accomplished much, I continue to enjoy life with my family, children and grandchildren, still wearing braces and using crutches! You have my permission to send Janine my email, I would love to be in touch with her!

Never broken

This is a powerful reminder that no matter what happens in life and how bad it can get that we have a choice - move forward 1mm at a time or give up and hand out invites to the pity party. I was destroyed over three years ago and today all my dreams are coming true - never give up peops.
