Are Religion and Science Destined to be in Conflict?

Each one is important, and when we understand the relationship between them, we will be able to appreciate how they can form a great partnership.

In the Beginning Our Science and Faith Were One

Science and religion "happened" together because they were the same thing! The laws of physics must have been created at the same instant as space-time along with the subsequent rapid expansion from the first created matter, also known as the Big bang. An the authority responsible must have been God. As our scientific knowledge grows we need to look more closely at our beliefs too, because at second sight it seems that scientific knowledge is subsequently denying the existence of God. Evolution suggests this. But when we look more widely at the really big situation we see from the above that this is not so.

Although religion and science are separate, they began together with the creation of the laws of physics and the Big Bang. So the subject is more complex than saying they are separate. The trouble with religious faith is that it is 100% certain and the trouble with scientific knowledge is that it isn't!

The big bang and creation are not in contradiction.

If G-d created the Big Bang the Evolution is not in contradiction with this. G-d created in the beginning the Big Bang, in such a way that included into the first matter, the potential was built in to come to Evolution. In this way I have found that creation and evolution do not contradict each other. Hope that some smart people can develop this idea in more detail !

Taking myth out of religion

Rabbi Sacks does a great job of bringing together disparate ideas to find new ways to see things. However he is limited by his own background. Just like Zeus is seen as myth and not an important part of religion, all gods can be seen as myth. Religion can well exist without God and probably cause a lot less problems.
