Noach (Genesis 6:9-11:32 )

The coronavirus pandemic is the perhaps one of the greatest challenges humanity faced since World War II. Governments worldwide have ordered lockdowns, introduced travel restrictions, and entered a difficult economic state. Teams around the world are working hard and headlines have been full of the latest “breakthroughs” in efforts to develop a pill on top of the vaccine against COVID-19. Does humanity have the wherewithal to put this crisis to an end? What about the rest of the world's issues such as poverty, starvation, and ongoing wars?

I would venture to say that a lack of resources is not our issue. I think if we were to put together all the brain power, money, ingenuity and creativity in the world, we would be able to solve most of the world issues. In fact, when we read about the Tower of Babel, God Himself comes down and declares that He gave humanity the power to solve any issue and accomplish all that they desire to do.1

So why isn’t it being done? Why have we not solved these pressing issues yet?

We are lacking one thing that the generation of the Tower of Babel had, and that is unity “The entire earth was of one language and uniform words... And the Lord descended to see the city and the tower that the sons of man had built. And the Lord said, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they have commenced to do. Now, will it not be withheld from them, all that they have planned to do?”2

Despite their unification, the generation of the Tower of Babel were severely misguided in their mission. Rather than channeling their strengths to make the world a better place, their mission was fueled by the desire for self-promotion and haughtiness. “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make ourselves a name”3 They were focused purely on exhibiting their might and power, and in no way fueled by values and goodwill.

What about today? Why were there so many different companies competing for the vaccine instead of sharing the knowledge that is collectively accumulated? It’s simple, they all want to make a name for themselves, they all want to make it big. Why are countries not working together to solve starvation, sickness, and any other world issues? Because their values aren’t aligned, the urge for power is unfortunately greater than the urge to perfect the world.

We were put in this world to accomplish a mission. A mission of bringing Godliness into the world, creating a society that lives with God given values. We were given all the tools, wisdom, wealth, and resources to actually make this a reality. But we need to unite together for the greater good. If we do that, the sky is the limit as to what we can accomplish and achieve.
