What if you say you're sorry?

I criticized someone 20 years ago. I apologized several times throuhgout the years. The person has not forgiven me even though I have done many helpful and kind things for her since then. What does one do ? She's nice at the time, but then, it's like I don't exist - never a call on a birthday, holiday or a thank you for a present. At the time, she started it with unkind words, and I finished it by criticizing her. If I had known then what I know now I wouldn't have this heartache. I truly enjoy your words each week, Rabbi. Thank you.
