Fantastic! Nore needed about LATKES, I think!

This was a varied, well danced, costumed and subtitled short, delightful Hanukah gift.
Wish it was longer.
I think I heard an imitation of Adam Sandler.

Great Video

I am seeing more and more Jewish-Israeli videos and it is about time that somebody in our faith started some PR for us. Great Job-Keep it going, the more the better. We need people to get to know who we were and are and not what they thought or were taught who and what we were and are.

(75) Becky Schreiber, December 15, 2011 9:03 PM

Dont attract people with something that you are not selling

Many people are selling a New brand of Judaism A new flavor An imitation They’re trying to attract Others By Authenticism Genuine Judaism But they are selling A sham

Ian, December 18, 2011 12:19 AM

It's the essence of Judiasm

While I agree that you need not re-brand Judaism, Aish is about getting the message of Torah out to the Jews that may not know enough to care. These videos which inspire pride and confidence in our religion are the means to the end, not the end itself. I don't think anything in the Torah prevents us from the Joy these videos bring.

(74) Laivi Shor, December 15, 2011 7:18 PM

Funny video

Fun video. I have no idea what videos are being parodied past MC Hammer. Finally feel like Rav Gil with baseball.

(73) Dovid Braverman, December 15, 2011 5:26 AM

i think it is crazy and awesome!!!!

(72) Dan, December 14, 2011 3:48 PM

Pour on the oil!

I ate it up! I recognized myself in some of those scenes. It was easy to laugh at and to dance to. I don't think I could do the break dancing though. It would require a real Olympic feat. That's just too Greek for me, by zeus.

(71) Laurie, December 14, 2011 3:04 AM

I could not stop laughing! And it made me want to know more about the holiday. I grew up not knowing I was Jewish. Looking back all I remember was eating potato cakes with Russian grt grandma on a 'special day". My aunt said since her mom tried to hide it, she always felt it was something to be ashamed of. Was cool to see people having fun and not ashamed to be Jews.

(70) Doris, December 14, 2011 2:05 AM

Really enjoyed this lively video. Thanks!

Aish is a great source of information on all topics Jewish.

(69) hana, December 13, 2011 2:37 PM

Rosh Hashana Rock Anthem

The Rosh Hashana Roch Anthem was a dynamic, out of this world HIT, and this Hanukah video was for the super duper puper scooper, But my daughter still wants to meet the blonde haired boy.

Todah Rabbah and Chag Samei'ach!

When I see wonderful talent used for a wonderful, kosher cause I get pretty emotional -- tears well up, the whole thing. Question: are any of these performers involved at all with Aish? (If not, why not?)

(51) Joyce Leggett, December 9, 2011 8:36 AM

Great Chanukah

My grandson asked me about Chanukah. This is a great way to teach him! Songs are great. Music spin is terrific. Yet, I will not fail to show the sacredness of all things pertaining to G-d.

(50) Anonymous, December 9, 2011 4:46 AM

Terrific video. Such great energy!

(49) Anonymous, December 8, 2011 10:29 PM

too radical

Good message, but way to radical for me! I don't like that kind of music at all.

(48) L Socher, December 8, 2011 10:04 PM

Please explain for the old folks

Who is the blond supposed to be? I recognized MC Hammer and John Travolta, and Easyrider, but that was about it!

Bob, December 13, 2011 10:43 PM

It's Steve Perry of Journey

(47) EB, December 8, 2011 6:36 PM

The lyrics are wrong

The lyrics begin, "To be a Jew this they could not stand They tried to kill But we rebelled..." In fact, the Greeks were happy to let Jews live in peace – as long as the Jews renounced Shabbos, Bris Milah, and Rosh Chodesh. Many Jews caved in to Hellenization. Those Jews who remained loyal to the Torah would rather die than do that, so they took up arms in rebellion against the Greeks (and against the Greeks’ Hellenized Jewish allies).

(46) chag sameach!!, December 8, 2011 5:41 PM

awesome movie!!!!! i watch it over and over! thanks!!

(45) penny, December 8, 2011 1:20 PM

(44) ACWanner, December 8, 2011 2:44 AM

chanukah-rock of ages

I would had liked to see more dancing and morein Eretz Yisrael and them being who they are, talented Jewish men to tell the story instead of all the silly wigs and goofiness. The Rosh Hashana anthem was better!

Anonymous, December 9, 2011 2:17 AM

i agree

yes i agree! they make fools of themselves!!!! the rosh hashana anthem just looked cooler

(34) Anonymous, December 7, 2011 5:23 PM

Cute- but I'll be honest..

I'm middle aged, and raised on Rock and Roll, so I identify with each era in your songs. I think you are all talented, and the video is entertaining. I can appreciate the parody from the perspective of someone raised secular and who has also made a deeper commitment to study and practice Judaism later in life. However, this approach would have backfired on me as a teen. In the 60's, I was a reluctant pre-teen coerced into a temple experience that I could not identify with. I had a deep yearning for the spiritual essence of Judaism, but could not connect with the religious school or services there. One day, there was a Jewish "rock band" in the temple, and the effort to be "hip" fell flat. I had heard every amazing rock song of the era, but I was looking for something better- a connection to G-d. Years later, I discovered the contemporary music of a talented observant Jewish singer. It was his talent combined with beautiful meaningful lyrics and profound spirituality that touched me, even when my knowledge was limited. I felt something in the music and words that inspired me to learn more, and I think this is what you wish to appeal to in youth. However, even as a 12 year old, I yearned for serious authenticity. Cute, funny, and hip is entertaining, but it did not light up my soul the way spirituality did.

Sue, December 8, 2011 4:57 PM

Music & Lyrics

I've watched the video several times because it makes me laugh. The dance moves, I myself attended dance classes back in the 70's to move with the groove, American style. The ability, one music video to reach across the ages, those that appreciate the music and lyrics, ought of where it came from. For you it drawn you back in your mind your commitment and what drew you there to make a deeper commitment. The video isn't of a profoundly spiritual nature, was it intended to be so, and I thought is the message being portrayed to take Hanukkah this year more of a secular view and do I only wish? Each year, expecting the get-go to make it that. My first thoughts after watching was to go out and buy gifts for the eight days, Christmas style, and buy those Wal-Mart Hanukkah gift cards to support the fact they thought of the Jewish people to make them(I battle this every year). I'm fighting the temptation another year, to keep Hanukkah spiritual, withdrawn from being secular for my household, the temptation is splashed all around with the Roman Holiday going on also. I still appreciate the good laughs this video produces in me, belly up. It does remind me of my secular days of old, however, when I see John Travolta and think of Saturday Night Fever, Hanukkah now will come to mind. Grease Lightning, will be Oil Lighting, we may be Old Dogs in the eyes of some, however, we are not "out of love" we still have life in us, like the miracle of the burning flames. Happy Hanukkah!

(33) Israbelle, December 7, 2011 4:59 PM

Another AWESOME video!!! THANK YOU!!! :-))

(32) Judy, December 7, 2011 4:47 PM

I really have mxed feelings about this video. I recognize how this can be helpful to reach young unaffiliated Jews, and so much credit goes to Aish for that. But, Chanukah is supposed to show us the difference between the Jews and the rest of the world, and here we are showing how we can be like them! Something about it bothers me, though I cannot deny the talent displayed here.

Kali Scoff, December 8, 2011 3:00 PM

Look at it from another angle

Judy, I don't think it's a matter of us trying to be "like them". I think it's a matter of us accepting others who are "like them". The reason for the destruction of the temple was because of "sinas chinum", unbased hatred. Had Jews been more accepting of each other and their differences, we might not have lost the Bais Hamikdash. This video is very appropriate, because it's a clear sign of welcome to all.

Hit Songs Like We've Never Seen Them Before

Tzittzit and disco? Love it!

(30) Anonymous, December 7, 2011 3:21 PM

I was sorry no women could participate

I understand the prohibition of "listening to a woman's voice", but feel that it is too bad that no women were featured in your video. And I also understand "a special role" of women. too bad they can not be highlighted having a good time as the men were.

(29) marie, December 7, 2011 3:16 PM

(28) Kristina, December 7, 2011 3:05 PM

Be Role Models For Youth In Your Videos

I like the last part "Chanukah is like this' but I don't like seeing your strong and handsome young men being so goofy. You have impressive talent. Use it to be role models and mentors - help the young want to be together and intelligent and strong.

Stephanie Factor, December 7, 2011 3:21 PM

They ARE Being Role Models

They are showing their talent, that life is fun and that being Jewish doesn't have to focus on atrocities all the time!

Elana, December 7, 2011 5:10 PM

sometimes goofy is good

Sometimes being goofy is a g8 way to grab a young person's attention. I loved it! (And I am not a "young person ;)

David Honaker, December 8, 2011 8:28 AM

Being "Goofy"

Kristina: Yes, they are young. "Goofy" is part of enjoying youth and having joy in life. Simcha Chai = Youth (it also equals the same for grandfathers like me, but that is also called "nachas!"). Let them enjoy their youth. Sharing the joys of life is, after all, a mitzva to them. (Ani lo Yehudi, aval ani tzioni v'yedid l'yehudim.) David min-Phoenix, AZ, USA

When I was there we met in a basement in the Old City, a kinda small yeshiva. How far Aish haTorah has come since 1980. As to this video, I love it. Recognize a few of the guys from the wonderful Rosh haShana video. Kol hakavod yedidim sheli! - David

It Rocks for today's Jewish youth

Thank you for all that put in the work to rock younger Jews into the present rather than the rock of ages ago. Bravo.

I guess the Greeks won after all.

Sebastian, December 7, 2011 9:47 AM

Greeks and Jews

Greece came into existence to beautify the world. The Jews are supposed to teach the world how to use this beauty properly. No contradiction!

great line!, December 7, 2011 10:01 PM

I think this comment was referring to the fact that all the songs were almost completely unchanged versions of songs taken from the non-Jewish culture around us. In other words, like the misyavnim of old, Jewish-plated.
