Not Everyone Fights With Light

Until the people that are our elected leaders, like Chuck Shumer, etc. decide to fight for our rights as Americans and Jews there will be no peace. A vast number of well meaning Jews have sided with Socialism and Marxism trying to turn our great country into a Communist utopia. Until they come to see their errors there will be no light.

Wow! i don't know who wrote this piece. Maybe it WAS Charlie himself. Whoever, it is brilliant and truer than ever.
Someone asked me just this morning, "So, does Eisav still hate Ya'akov?" And, I answered, "For sure. Look at the terrorist activity just yesterday in Israel, and last week in California."
Now, I could say, "You know, I just saw this fantastic article/video on that at Aish.com

your words are inspiring and healing

Charlie, Hashem has given you a gift and a job that "Baruch HaShem" you share with Klal Israel in such a special way. You make ALL Jews proud of our Heritage and most important of all you spread the importance of TOLERANCE and ACCEPTANCE for one another. May you, your beautiful wife, children, family, and friends be blessed with lots of Light in your Life and of course in your Souls. THANK YOU!!!

(52) Rita Braunstein, December 21, 2014 7:53 PM

Meaningful and Useful

This "dvar" was brilliant! I took it to the yeshiva high school where I teach and showed it to my 10th and 12th grade students as part of our Chanukah party. One boy even stood up and summarized afterwards to show how meaningful it was for all. Yashar Koach!

(51) Anonymous, December 19, 2014 5:23 AM

awe inspiring!!!

So beautiful, so inspiring, so true!!! Thank you for this wonderful reminder of who we are, as klal Yisrael, and our place in the world.Makes me feel proud to be a jew!

(50) Ziporah, December 18, 2014 9:29 PM

It is the best time energeticlly to fight the darkness with light because of the extra power of Chanukah!

See it.

(49) Leon Kushner, December 18, 2014 8:43 PM

Excellent Video!

It's funny how 2 people can watch the same video and come away with opposing views. I guess its what you are looking for. I tend to look for the positive. It's Obvious that Deborah was not. I am not religious in the least put I agree 100% with the insightful words that were spoken. What he said was based on historical facts. What he said defines better than any other definition I've heard of Judaism. I don't think anyone could have said it better.

(48) Harry Pearle, December 18, 2014 7:03 PM

Light One Candle (Peter, Paul, and Mary)

This is tops, Charlie. It reminds me of the "Light One Candle" song. We can bring light to situations throughout the year, of course. Light can be used to point out different points of view, with different points of light. THANKS MUCH. www.SavingSchools.org

(47) Anonymous, December 17, 2014 9:43 AM

fant6astic talk

Just want to say how absolutely spot on this talk is. If only the whole world operated like this! Happy chanukah and God bless.

(46) Deborah, December 17, 2014 3:34 AM

Interesting message, though not entirely convincing

I do not completely agree with Mr. Harary's message that the world-wide Jewish community is morally & ethically superior to all other cultures/religions. I also question the veracity of the video images that included only observant men and boys in the religious scenes. The subliminal message of these images is that only that only males can 'bring light, morality and ethics...' to the world.

Anonymous, December 17, 2014 11:48 AM

Dear Deborah,

I humbly share, regarding the impression and subliminal possibilities. I took from this article truths of Torah, examples of those that persue to follow G-d' s commandments, the role (ordained by G-d in the Tanach) of G-d's people to bring Light to all nations and people (me, for example: not Jewish and female). The theme, the historical facts, the times ... And the relevance of all this in our day, prophetically, was inspiring and encouraging. May we study Torah and believe in the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. HE is Himself the Light.

You are missing the boat

You cracked feminists always miss the boat. This was a very powerful lesson which I doubt cry baby feminists ever think about:
Instead of attaching others project your own light of wisdom and maybe somebody will take you seriously.

Nancy, December 1, 2015 8:48 PM

Re: You are missing the boat

There is no need for name calling, just because you disagree with something a commenter said. Please apologize for using the terms cracked feminists and cry baby feminists. That was quite disrespectful.

(45) Anonymous, December 17, 2014 3:07 AM

Thank you!!!!!!

(44) Anonymous, December 17, 2014 2:48 AM

Very meaningful!

Thank you so much for this outstanding video! It was really meaningful to me!

(43) Calev, December 17, 2014 1:56 AM

light is hope

Bringing light, our best selves, to every attack on us and to every day we live is our purpose. Thank you for the fantastic video.

(42) Avivit, December 16, 2014 9:57 PM

so beautifull, so true

Thank you!

(41) David Frank Bartl, December 16, 2014 6:05 PM

Thank you, Charlie. You have incapsulated it all!

A man once said that it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. Thank you so very much Charlie: you have saved my Hanukkah and rekindled the spark in my soul.
Mazel Tov!

(40) Heidi Thibodeau, December 16, 2014 3:30 PM

(37) Nancy, December 16, 2014 12:21 PM

Thank you Charlie Harary

Yes, we must ALWAYS fight darkness with light. Thank you for presenting this wonderful video. You are a gifted speaker and educator, and I am proud to call you a fellow New Yorker. A very Happy Chanukah to you and your family! :-)

(36) Anonymous, December 16, 2014 7:53 AM

so clear, poignant, pertinent... Everything we need to know about our lives as Jews in 5 minutes. THANK YOU!

(35) Anonymous, December 16, 2014 1:30 AM

Excellent talk!

Thank you so much Charlie Harary. What a gift you have to speak. I am not Jewish - I am Christian and I stand with you. What would the Middle East do without out the moral fiber of Israel! Keep those encouraging talks coming.

(34) Anonymous, December 16, 2014 12:54 AM

That was amazing.

Thank you so much for the clear message you've so powerfully and eloquently given. Your videos are ongoing sources of inspiration and I truly appreciate it. Thank you for giving clarity and depth on the festival of lights!

(33) erin, December 16, 2014 12:18 AM

"You are the light of the world."

Just being you, smiling, not smiling, loving, gentle you- burns throughout all societies with the brightest light. You are the light of the world. For me, Hanukkah reminds me of that-brightly reminds me of that. Light- the one thing we well, :- D

(32) Anonymous, December 15, 2014 10:04 PM

focus on happiness

thank you, for that message, glad you clarified what our focus is, one can loose track, and loose hope, you rekindled that spark

(31) Abie Schwartz, December 15, 2014 8:31 PM

Exaggerated a bit?

What do you mean we don't fight? What were we doing bombing innocents in Palestine? Granted they hid among civilians, but we still should not have killed innocents. We are supposed to be ABOVE others with morality!

Jack bender, December 16, 2014 3:11 AM

Abie..Hamas could have fired their rockets from open spaces...farms..they could have put their terror tunnels entrances there also..they could have used the tunnels to put innocents in...Israel's suicide ..would that have saved your gentle stupid soul

Anonymous, December 16, 2014 7:11 PM

It's a moral obligation to defend yourself

We didn't want to fight. Like Charlie said, they left us no alternitive

(30) Channah, December 15, 2014 7:47 PM

Thank you so much for this video. Brought tears to my eyes and gave my kids a better understanding of the true purpose behind the candles.

(29) Marie Freitas, December 15, 2014 6:19 PM

G-d is our light in a dark world

G-d of Abraham Yitzak and Yaacov is the light of the World. Our people are not alone. Israel will always have a place as long as we fight the darkness with shine bright. Israel the light and hope to world full of darkness. Let your light shine during this season of festival of lights. Chag Sameach Hanukkah to everyone. Shalom.

(28) Joyce Kubitz, December 15, 2014 4:22 PM

Your message was so clear and true.

(27) Richard Wahl, December 15, 2014 12:58 PM

The Wonderful Jewish People

Unlike all other peoples, the Jews do not glorify war. They do not build monuments to former wars. They instead honor the heroes of those wars. Even their salutation is Shalom, Peace

Aharon, December 15, 2014 7:35 PM

What Chanukkah literally means

Richard, you are right! Even the name of the holiday teaches this. CHANU-KAH means they Jews CHANU ("ceased fighting") on the KAH = 25th of Kislev. The holiday is named to signify that the war for the Temple was over and the Jews can now return to serving G-D without being bothered by distractions.

(26) dvorah, December 15, 2014 1:41 AM

thankyou for enlightening us!

you are an extremely eloquent speaker and truly think outside the box. We are blessed to have you as our Jewish brother - to guide us and learn from! Thank you!

(25) SOCORRO SAMPERIO, December 15, 2014 1:40 AM

Makes me wish I was Jewish

So moving and inspiring. The history of this holiday is a wonderful tribute to the hand of God. But the words of your grandparents inspire me and make me wish I was Jewish or had the same thoughts of being light

thank you so much. question: What is Rabbi Harrari's specific suggestion as to how one should go about "fighting darkness with light one candle at a time"? Ed. Note: visit this site for concrete ideas on how you can fight with light: http://www.theactionsproject.com/

A universal message

I'm not jewish, but this hanukkah message touches the heart of any human being who wants to make a difference in a world filled with so much hate and atrocious acts of inhumanity - I join all of you in your spirit of light!

(2) Ellie, December 14, 2014 2:48 PM

Thanks for an understanding of Chanuka that I'm never had before....
We do fight with light... with the little things we do to add light into peoples lives, and we see how it's the little things we do that show others we care, not the big things.... If you ask someone how they know xyz cares about them, it will be the little things that will be noticed....
Thank you!

(1) Yaakov Novograd, December 14, 2014 1:46 PM

Thank You!
