Great story!!The rabbi in the story is Rabbi Yitzcok Zilber, not Chaim.

discrepancy in the story
So your story is certainly moving and inspiring but how could the captain, at least 25 years old in the story, have been taken away at 3 by a car? Even if this was the last year of WWI, 1918, that would mean he was taken away in 1898 or earlier, although Russian saw its first automobile in 1896 it is hard to imagine they penetrated the country to such an extent that the army was picking up people so soon with them, especially in the pale of settlement. At that point they were the pre model T version, open versions like horse carts with no roof or sides. My grandfather was born in 1907 and didn't see a car in the Ukraine until at least 1917.
