Martin Luther's Reformation and Antisemitism

When Jews wouldn’t convert to Protestantism, Martin Luther’s response set off a chain reaction of antisemitic rhetoric. His writings have been used for centuries as a justification for antisemitism, permanently altering the course of history for European Jews.

Would Luther have supported the Nazi Holocaust ..?

Would Protestant Reformer Martin Luther have supported the Nazi Holocaust, the Extermination of 6 Million Jews, Some say he would have, others say even Martin Luther wouldn't have supported Extermination of the Jews, but what do we think ?

Yes, unfortynately Luther didn't settle for the timing in the will of God the father. He went ahead with hatred when he knew his Lords teaching of not to hate but to love. That he who hates his brother is still in the dark. About the plan and the timing he should have known because he had Romans 11 to study. "for if the casting away of them is a reconciliation of the world, what the reception- if not life out of the dead." "For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren , of this secret--that ye may not be wise in your own conceits--that hardness in part to Israel hath happened till the fullness of the nations may come in; and so all Israel shall be saved, according as it hath been written, 'There shall come forth out of Sion he who is delivering, and he shall turn away impiety from Jacob, and this to them is the covenant from Me, when I may take away their sins'."

The pressure is in Germany still there

Hi, I watched this movie and what I have to say, is: Since Luther created the reformation for the christians, jews in Germany have to live under emotional and mental pressure within educational institutions, because protestants are on the opinion that the whole world would have build up on their mind. They don't understand that the Torah, they used to abuse for that claim, is a deep rooted heritage of Judaism and that they are not allowed to touch this heritage and that they have no right to tell jews what to believe. If I would be asked, I would say it should be prohibited to the protestants to receive any letters of the Torah and they shall focus on their New Testament, they reached in a very long journey of crime, together with the catholics they judge them for being corrupt. They are not less corrupt, because they steal thoughts and ideas from other people, to decorate themselve with wisdom and knowledge of them.

Too late, guys!

The Holocaust is the culmination of German (and not only German) anti-Semitism that has lasted for two thousand years. I have read and listened to various Protestant apologists trying to explain what happened in WWII and why everyone was so collectively silent on the horrors that befell the Jews. It is not enough to say that their "afterthought" was very late immediately after the war. (Sometimes their sprinkling of ashes is tragicomic and of course, leads to nothing but self-justification. Praise be to individuals but collectively they have failed).

I know about most of these events. So sad. We have certainly had enough anti-Semitism everywhere for a very long time.

Half the History?

You correctly noted Luther like all the Reformers started as a RC so his disruption merely excited Antisemitism that the RC had cultivated and practised for centuries. Luther did not need to invent nor encourage it.
In the long run Protestantism improved the condition of the Jews because it shattered the Roman Church's cultural monopoly so the various sects learnt to live in tolerance and Protestant countries eased up a lot on the Jews especially in English and Dutch commercial ambience. Corroboration is the move to Poland, a Calvinist country in the late 1500's and Cromwell's recognition of the Jews who had been quietly in London since Elizabeth !.
Protestant, initially grudging, tolerance became Enlightenment received opinion and colonial practice so the US Constitution is a Calvinist document in its separation of functions: the Nation as the congregation, Congress as the deacons , the President as the Pastor and the Supreme Court as the Elders.
Returning to Luther: his translation of the Bible into German created modern German identity and set the German language inclusive its quirk for putting subordinate verbs at the end of their clauses. Yiddish being medieval does not. Together this explains the secular dark side of Luther in the Drecken Reich but do note its senior leaders were (lapsed) Catholics.

Martin Luther's antisemitism

Martin Luther was a catalyst for reformation in Christianity indeed. Unfortunately he was a flawed human that didn't understand Biblical prophesy and was shortsighted about what the old testament revealed about the formation of the Jewish state of Israel. If he would have went to the Jewish leaders looking for answers and blessing instead of cursing Jews things may have been different. As a protestant myself I am and will always be ashamed of this part of protestant history. Ultimately I know that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is our God too and He is in control of history. It is His story. One day all will be revealed. One day it will honor Him regardless of human error.
