Recognition Only

Please, get it straight - the UN did NOT vote to create Israel. The vote was to RECOGNIZE the state just declared. Yes, it was a triumph that they did so vote. But even if they had not recognized Israel at that point, we would have gone ahead with the founding of the state (and the Arabs would still have attacked). Israel's existance is NOT dependent in any way on the UN - who by the way made up for that one positive vote with many tens of anti-Israel resolutions!

UN vote preceded creation of state

The State of Israel was declared on May 14, 1948. The UN vote on November 29, 1947, called for the division of Mandate Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The Arabs rejected this partition plan, but the vote did pave the way for the establishment of the State of Israel. It is certainly true that the UN has been no friend of Israel since then.

This is by far the best Jewish video I have ever seen. It has changed how I look at my religion. I'm so proud to be a Jew. I want to learn more. Thank you for posting this.

Hi Very instructive video. But my question is where was God when his chosen people was suffering ? how could that happen? He helped Moses crossing the sea followed by the freed Jews of Egypt, so why did my ancestors had to die in the concentration camps?

It's all in the Torah

Jews turned their backs on G-d, so this is what resulted. Europe was one large cesspool of assimilation, and G-d would have none of it. In retrospect, we clearly see that the holocaust was the end of the haskalah, the enlightenment.

Beautiful and informative -- if I knew how, I would forward this video to the WH, WA.D.C. and pray it would touch their hearts.

Good benefits us all. Evil is a sure path to human decay and destruction.

It would be so easy to withdraw from the world after all that the world has put us through. The torture and the persecutions should have crushed our spirit. But we have survived because we have never retreated from engaging with the wider cultures of the world but also by continueing to question the central questions of human existence. We are a curious people driven to suceed and to discover truth. We believe in the benefits of morality, ethics and the golden rule. Might does not make right as the Nazi's proved. Might does not serve humanity. Good not Evil is the only strategy that can guarantee human survival. It is so simple and so evident. It may be human nature to try to vanquish and rule one another but it is also an unsustainable and failed strategy. Only acceptance, loving kindness and justice are sustainable. This is why the Jewish people have survived and why cultures that emulate our values can survive. The destruction of Jewish values will be the beginning of the end for humanity because in that scenario they will all be at each others throats. In that case they will deserve their fate. This is why thoughtful people have seen the value of Jewish culture and which compels Jews to carry forward. We can only survive if we do not resign ourselves to the despair of life's futility / meaninglessness or the primitive and base instincts to vanquish all those not belonging to our tribe ( as if the destruction of others is a strategy for survival let alone a formula for humanity to flourish.) The Jewish ideals are the only sustainable and rational way forward for humanity. In the words of our American patriot forefathers, surely we must all hang together or else we will surely all hang separately. Thus the Jews will not relinquish our values nor can we ever afford to disengage with the world. Our survival and the survival of the world depends on it.

This truly shows how the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob thru the Jewish people has been a light to the world and continues to shine.

Thank you, I am Roman Catholic and a Jewish friend sent this link to me. The feelings I received from this video is what I feel when I am in Israel, my heart feels this love so deep for the land, religion, and the people I feel it will just pour out of me, it is such an overwhelming feeling. When I see how the Jewish people have been treated it is as if it is happening to me—the first time I went to Yad Vashem I could only see the first couple of pictures and had to leave immediately the pain and despair I saw permeated deep into my being, I waited outside and sat on a wall along the Walk of the Righteous and asked God how this could have happened, but as you so magnificently recounted in the video, and we see in the Torah it has happened many times. Thank you again

Happy Ending

Thank you for this truly inspirational video.
Indeed it is a remarkable story, which is still continuing.
The last chapters are still to be written, where our role of being "Light onto the nations" will be completed.
What is our secret?
Our unique ability to directly connect to the Divine power.
And how?
Through the actions our ancestors performed at Sinai, pledging to become a nation "as one man with one heart" in practical mutual guarantee where "each Jew is responsible for an another".
And today the global human society, desperately sinking into an unsolvable crisis affecting all human activities badly need us to teach them our method through positive example.

Aside from imparting in us a pride in our heritage, we thank you for creating an awareness to the rest of the world of what it means to be a Jew.

It's ironic to think that if Jews, like the Mediveal Chirstians, believed in passing down guilt thru the generations, there is probably not a European or European-decended person on Earth who cannot be prosecuted for some act of violence against a Jew.
